I decided I'd play with Reason\Sonar today. http://tindeck.com/listen/rqev The end result is a tasteless as holy hell cover of Paint It Black. Enjoy!

I found a thread for me! I've got a handful of covers I've done, but the first one I wanna share is probably my best one. http://soundcloud.com/woodch/jessies-girl-mix-3 I forget which round of SA Rockstar this one won, but it's really the last project I've done all the way through I need to get back into it again. Edit: Let's make a two-fer. http://soundcloud.com/woodch/woodch-nowhereman-final Another SA Rockstar entry, but this one only made it to the top 5 I think. Somewhere along the way, I lost my archives access, so I can't find any of the old threads to confirm or deny anything regarding these covers. Some more info about these: Jessie's Girl was originally going to be Love Somebody (also by Rick Springfield), but fellow Goon and Ghetto Radio DJ "Robnoxious" convinced me to do Jessie's Girl instead. All the parts were recorded, and the first mix-down finished, in about 4 hours one afternoon. The drums were the hardest part for me because I'm not a drummer, and playing the drums on the keyboard made it even harder. I had to keep going back and putting things in like fills and cymbals, and you'll also notice how the timing kinda floats around because I have White-Boy's Disease (aka Rhythm Deficiency Syndrome). It took a lot longer to arrive at this final mix than it did to record all the parts because I kept fiddling with the reverb and the eq of the rhythm guitars to get everything to "fit". I'm happy with the final result, though. Nowhere Man was also done pretty quickly. I set up a 2-bar drum loop, recorded two tracks of acoustic rhythm guitar, over dubbed a cheesy electric, and recorded 4 tracks of vocals--2 singing the main melody, and the other 2 splitting the harmony parts. You can hear my voice cracking occasionally because I was fighting a cold (not as bad as one of the other covers I may share), and getting everything to sound right was tough because the acoustic kept wanting to "boom" a lot. Not as proud of this one, but satisfied enough to Let It Be. woodch fucked around with this message at 20:18 on Oct 17, 2011 |

And now for an embarrassing one. http://soundcloud.com/woodch/had-enough This was another SA Rockstar Entry, but finished near the bottom. It had a lot going against it: 80's hair band cover (Mr. Big, from their first album), vocals recorded with a really bad cold, half-assed drum sequencing. The bass is SUPER LOUD too, because I couldn't hear properly with my cold, and by the time I got this far I said "gently caress it", and just left it as-is. Even the backing vocals are just 2 parts I recorded and then copy/pasted them where I needed them. What I do like about it is that with the exception of the vocals, it's a pretty good cover of the song. I liked the bass sound I got, even if I mixed it too loud, and the guitar is just one track for rhythm and one track for the solo. Got a decent sound from those as well--VERY 80's. I'll be surprised if any of you actually recognize the song, since it never got airplay, and Mr. Big really didn't get discovered by the mainstream until their second album, and "To Be With You" forever chained them to the "wussy hair ballad" label.

Whoa, nice Jessie's Girl cover! And, yeah, the bass is certainly a touch overblown on Had Enough but it's an easy trap to fall into especially with head colds. Digging the 80s aesthetic. I don't really know if these count as "covers" per se and they're possibly not to the taste of you proper instrumentalists, but I've been flexing my remix skills this year by disrespectfully stripping short loops out of some classic old tracks and deconstructing 'em into my own bassy, repetitive loopy techno manner. http://soundcloud.com/ynohtna/sets/disco-del-mutante/ All tracks are recorded live, triggering the loops and manipulating knobs, effects, pedals and stuff on the fly whilst praying that the analogue kit doesn't catch fire. Gear lists are on each track's full page.

I was bored and decided to throw together a pretty straight-forward, acoustic-ish cover of House of The Rising Sun. I'm not really happy with the mixing itself, but I kinda like the overall feeling of it. It also gave me an excuse to play around with my new brass slide and Amplitube's rotary speakers. Also, you can laugh at my accent - and my bad vocals.

Rakshas posted:Covered Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow but changed the words enough to not sound gay. Still sounds gay. I don't think the other goon gave you enough credit for this. Sure it's shaky in parts, but overall I loved it. You should do some Eliot Smith covers with that voice.

+1 for that Jessies Girl cover. Congrats! e: Also that House of the Rising Sun cover is brilliant! For content, I recently was messing around with non-electronic music and made this stupid version of Bugs by Pearl Jam with lyrics about goons. Don't hate me. Or, do.

Great thread, you guys! Here are some covers and stuff I've done. I did all the instruments except for on the drunkjam. My brother was playing electric guitar and I was playing acoustic and singing. Drunkjam, assorted covers. The first song that we play is a song I wrote entitled "My Life is poo poo", the rest are covers I'm pretty sure. Enjoy my slurred speech and me forgetting lyrics. http://tindeck.com/listen/tokh http://tindeck.com/listen/wrlm House of the Rising Sun http://tindeck.com/listen/ucss Hey Joe http://tindeck.com/listen/wcub Fugees- Ready or Not http://tindeck.com/listen/mcqh Beatles-With A Little Help From My Friends http://tindeck.com/listen/swit I really love my tindeck page because it's really obvious to me how I've changed in recording music over the past year and a half or so. The Moon Goons and Montosh are bands that I played bass for, and I was the lead singer for The Moon Goons. Edit: Most of the songs, except for The Moon Goons, Montosh, When I Die, I Hope You Die, and Talking Heads, are covers. Alobar fucked around with this message at 05:39 on Oct 31, 2011 |

Bonnene posted:A power metal cover of My Heart Will Go On that I made a while ago. Pretty bad production though. I wasn't sure what to expect but I liked this! It made the song sound upbeat, and it kind of took a different angle to the song. (This was one of my favorite songs at one point, and an ex went the other way when he covered it -- he went even more melancholy than the original with his slow piano solo.) Also like another poster, totally loved the Canon in D part. Made me laugh. Rakshas posted:Covered Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow but changed the words enough to not sound gay. Still sounds gay.

So.... a buddy of mine says to me, "You know what would be funny? If you did a dubstep version of Handel's Messiah". I laughed and laughed, but when I got home, I said, "Shiiit could I really do that?" Well turns out Messiah is like the least dubsteppy song ever and it's so much more complicated than I realized. I had to truncate and excise quite a bit. Anyway, here's my ridiculous attempt. If you have any suggestions besides delete it and kill myself, I'm all ears. http://soundcloud.com/gkchestertron/handels-dubstep-messiah

Decided to test out my Logitech microphone for audio quality and it turns out it's not bad for 30 bucks. An audiophile would spit acid on it probably, but it's certainly better than that lovely onboard mic. Seriously why even bother including it. This is just a soundcheck, but I tried to do all the parts anyway for about half the song, which happens to be The Day That Never Comes, by Metallica.

If anyone likes old Beck, I've got a cover of "rear end in a top hat" from his One Foot in the Grave album. http://soundcloud.com/redhatmusic/rear end in a top hat I revamped the crap out of it and added new parts, but I think it sounds pretty decent aside from my lovely mixing.

I threw together a cover of Brick by Ben Folds Five, but I couldn't do the vocals justice. Would anyone be kind enough to provide a vocal track? It's a straight cover that follows the song exactly. This is just a scratch instrumental, with next to no mixing or mastering.

How did I miss the finished version? If your production values were a little higher and you time travelled back to 1985 you could have a crossover hit on your hands.
