I don't think anyone remembers this, but a while ago in the foreign-language rockstar thread, I mentioned my band was doing a cover of the old Fight! Kikkoman flash movie song. It never got properly recorded in time for that, but we did finally record it and make a music video. I'm the rhythm guitarist/"Lord Worcestershire" and my drummer is also a longtime goon.

Thanks, the vocals on that do have quite a bit going on to help them. I was trying to get something sort of like the vocal sound the original has but without the massive compression.

The main vocal is double-tracked and then there are three harmony parts which are all double-tracked as well (and panned hard left/right), then there's a little bit of distortion added to everything to increase the MGMT-ness.

The internet also desperately needed another cover of wagon wheel.

Singing harmony is sort of a novelty to me but it's hard to screw up this song.

I had an idea for an arrangement of the song in a blues-ish manner, but as you can see I didn't put much of an effort production-wise - there's barely any mixing done and everything is either first or second-take. I don't wanna do anything "serious" until I get my hands on my sound monitors.

Also, my voice is way too boy-ish to do blues. Meh. And I hosed up a lot when it comes to pronounciation.

Fall of 2010 I took a recording class and this was my final project; a cover of I'm Only Sleeping. I played the acoustic guitar, sang and programmed the drums and I had friends fill out the rest.

I haven't listened to it in at least six months and listening to it now I can't decide how I feel about it. The mix itself is pretty bad, the drums are all too loud. There's also like a minute of silence at the end that I never got around to cutting out. The one thing I love about it are the backwards solos my friend did on the track. I keep saying I'm going to record something else but I can never find the time. :(

Here are a couple live covers my band did.

I bet you look good on the dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys)

Where is my mind (Pixies)

Here's one more that I haven't heard covered by anyone else. Parallel or Together (Ted Leo). The quality on this one is bad, but it was awesome live. This is a hard song to play.

edit - I have two covers done that I was hoping to find someone to put vocals to. Is anyone interested in throwing some vocals on a New Found Glory song, and a rock cover of The Four Seasons "Let's Hang On"? I realize this might be a longshot but I just can't do the songs justice.

Recorded this awhile back with my vocalist. It's a chill/jazzy guitar and voice cover of Why Don't You Do Right.

We'd just recently gotten a Coles ribbon mic and I was excited to finally get a mic that actually captures her voice as it's meant to be heard, without all the brittle harshness that most condensors put onto the vocals. If you're having issues getting a vocalist to sound right, give ribbon mics a look, depending on what you're doing, they can make a huge difference.

Chillmatic, that's a great version of Do Right. A lot of talent in this thread! Downloading a bunch of covers right now.

Also, thehoj, are you the singer in Fall Back Down? Whoever it is does a great Tim Armstrong.

Just finished up my first recording in what seems like forever, it's a cover of "Poison Heart" by The Ramones.

Now, to make my way back through this thread to check out some of the other covers...
