How does a blush look when there are no capillaries or epidermis?

The translators have been a bit weird. For the most part they do okay, but then they do things like consistently render "threat" as "thread."

So did the English publishers ever explain why they chose such a dumb and confusing name when they brought it over?
I think it's because that's what the original author wanted it to be.

I never noticed the split-level teeth that Eren's titan form had in the manga.

They're really playing up the Annie/Reiner/Bert stuff in the anime.

Yeah, I had forgotten that one of the first things Reiner does once things clam down is ask Connie how much he knows about the Rage titan. I'm sure it looks like he's just trying to make conversation to 1st time viewers, but it's the most suspicious thing once you know why he's asking.
His remark about Annie not getting injured takes on a new significance as well.

Reading that post was like reading the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones for the first time; you're just reading along and your mind isn't quite willing to fully process that yes, this is actually happening until you've already reached the point of no return.

I've definitely noticed that any shot that frames Annie pretty much always has Reiner and Berthold either behind or off to the sides of her. It's definitely intentional, and rather amusing.
And in the shot where Eren is thinking about what his squadmates are doing while he's in jail, Bert looks really interested in Annie cooking, which takes on a new significance now that we know that Bert has a thing for her.

Isn't Bert #3 in the rankings for their class, behind only Reiner and Mikasa (who is such a freak of nature she practically doesn't count)? That's hardly average.

Also, having a protagonist who is at least bit interested with interacting with the plot sure does help.
He's interested in interacting with the plot by smashing through it in pursuit of his goals. That in and of itself is interesting. Also being one-note isn't the same as being shallow, if that note has enough depth to it.

What I'm getting out of posts like yellowyams' or RubberLuffy's is less that there's any legitimacy in being upset about the directorial decisions "ruining" Annie, and more that we're supposed to unfairly hold the reactions of creepy weirdos against the director. I think the bigger problem is that there are people out there who see being mentally unhinged as "hot" or "sexual". That they can look at Annie as she stands there, as you can practically hear something inside her break, and go "Oh I'd totes bang that chick". I don't think that's any problem of the director, author, artists, or anyone involved in the televising of SnK.

I think the backup argument is that by including elements that might end up appealing in yandere-lovers, the creators are presumptively pandering to that audience. Which is still rather silly, if it requires that creators must excise anything that certain people might like just to avoid having them enjoy it, permanently placing a large number of plot elements out of bounds based on a strange sort of puritanism. Creepers gonna creep regardless, so writers may as well write without worrying about it.

She holds Eren back because she doesn't want her only family left in the world to die and she doesn't know he has plot armor how is this a sign of her having an emotional flaw.
I sometimes get the feeling that people believe that any relationship where both parties don't already have one foot out the door is fundamentally unhealthy.

Hodgepodge posted:

I'm insinuating that your position is that of a child because I have little but contempt for anyone who cannot even entertain the idea that they might share the same interpretive biases as the rest of humanity. You care so much about defending your self-perception as "not sexist" that you cannot sustain the sort of self-examination required to honestly evaluate your own interpretations in those terms. The result is an entrenched lack of self-awareness. Or to put it simply, if you are more worried that someone might call your opinion sexist than you are that your opinion might be sexist, you are a sad little person.

Guess what? I'm quite capable of having sexist and racist ideas. Can you imagine? I can, because I actually have a realistic self-image that allows for my perspective to not always account for the experiences of others. I'm fine with the fact that sometimes, I might be wrong when I think some idea of mine isn't to some degree racist (etc). When someone says "X idea is racist/etc," I don't even see it as about me. I think of it more as "them" trying to explain to me something about themselves that I'm not properly applying to the situation.
I think the issue is that when sexism or racism are brought up, it's often a shorthand way of saying "your opinion is illegitimate, you're a bad person, and you will be excommunicated and never forgiven." It's not surprising that people react emotionally to that sort of thing.

US, Australian and UK law (amongst other places I'm sure) does, so uh yes really.
I can't speak for UK/Aus law, but under US law if there wasn't an actual minor depicted engaging in sexual activities then it's just governed by the obscenity standard, which is a hard standard to meet in order to ban the material. The one exception is depictions that are actually fictional but represent themselves as real, which are considered pandering and can be banned like regular child porn.
