just went on discogs to see if a now-defunct local band i liked in my very early twenties ever got anything pressed

and their one full-length only ever made it to cd, which is a bit of a shame

but then i think, i don't actually have that cd, just the copy i made

so i go and look to see if there's a copy for sale anyway

and there's eight copies of this one-off from this northeastern pennsylvanian punk band

https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/1907605

...in israel, italy, the netherlands, germany, the uk, australia, and france. only one in the us.

and it's actually kinda cool? stuff travels.

I'll probably buy the cd at some point and toss the band some bucks on their bandcamp, since they put their stuff up digitally there

I was a few years behind the Bedford times but those songs still rip. NEPA scene days were some good times for sure.

sadly, i never actually got to be part of the scene in those days - i was living with my family (with no car) out towards lake wallenpaupack when not away at college, but i worked with people who did at the local grocery store

my younger brother did, though, he played with a few different bands in S/WB in the 00s-10s, after i left PA entirely

cardboard box parade is still so good and probably my favorite tune from that band tho

I noticed when I put mine on last night that the time between the needle drop and music starting was like, almost zero for both A and B sides. I don't know if it's a mispress or my automatic needle is a bit too far in, but it's not a bad problem.

Didn't notice any major audio issues but it was mostly background music while I was cooking so I wasn't listening super closely either.

Well I finally listened to it carefully and my copy is absolutely fine. Luck of the draw I guess.

Stevie Wonder is in great shape, but the Herbie is pretty scuffed up. Lots of pops and clicks, but it still sounds fine beneath that. These days I'm much more bothered when I get a record and it's been played so much that it's lost all high end and there's lots of sibilance. Sometimes they can look like they're in perfect shape but still sound terrible.

I can put up with surface-level pops and clicks all day. It's like listening to the record next to a cozy crackling fire. :3:

Haaaay. I'm getting back into scratching and all my records are hosed up because I am a child who doesn't know how to take care of material possessions. I haven't been paying attention in the past ~12 years so here are my questions:

1. Scratch records - I used to use the qbert ones (scratchy seal etc) and I liked them because they had the "skip protection" (meaning it's the same sample for a while at the same needle position so if the needle jumps you land on the same sample again) - are there other people pressing vinyl like that?

2. Needles - where's the best place for me to buy new needles, cartridges?

someone who wants it for decoration

in other news, have you ever just put something on from your collection thinking it'll be a nice time just like the other times you've listened to it, but this time you just lift the needle, resleeve it, then just drop it right in the to-sell crate?

I'm a nerd for early synth wankery and poo poo, but i put on tomita's the planets last night and i got to jupiter at the top of side two and just got frustrated about how badly his arrangement translates, and takes what should be a slam dunk of the strongest melody in the suite and half-heartedly plays through it before declining into mediocre space noise

and into the "to half-price" bin it went

Sort of. Recently I accepted that some record purchases of mine were mistakes and sold them back to the local shop. For a specific example as I've been practicing an instrument and listening to more music overall, I've found the metal band Anvil less of a guilty pleasure to listen to and began getting rid of some of those albums too. I still like their album Metal on Metal, but it pretty much is the only high point of their catalog.

As to Tomita's Planets that's one that has been dangerously close to the out stack for me too. It skated by last time by being a pleasant enough nothingburger to listen to, but I never really pull it out when I'm in the mood for earlyish electronic music. I've not listened to a proper rendition of the Planets Suite though, but the fact that I cannot remember poo poo about Tomita's album is damning in itself.

the heads record is purportedly the full show that they took the first half of name of this band from, and the extra tracks from that sounded fine when they expanded it to two cds back in 2005 or whenever, it'll presumably sound okay
