I went to Sound Cat (formerly Paul's) in Pittsburgh around 11:30, and while I didn't get any of the RSD releases, I didn't make out too shabby. $49.75 for the following: The Menzingers - On the Impossible Past (new, CD included) Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada (new) Trash Talk - Awake 7" (new) Shabazz Palaces - Black Up (used) Year Future s/t EP 12" (used) All in great shape, and the Year Future release is a pretty slick orange color. I also grabbed Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory and a green vinyl edition of The Rapture - In the Grace of Your Love double LP at Urban Outfitters last Saturday for $10 each. Been a good week for records, pics available if anyone wants them.

How is Amazon for ordering vinyl? I have $120 in store credit left and have a few purchases in mind. I'd rather support local stores if possible, but I'm having some trouble finding things like Minus the Bear and Bear in Heaven in Pittsburgh.

Any Chicago goons know of good record stores? I'm going to Pitchfork Fest this Saturday and want to see if I can find some cool places to poke around.

Thanks for the responses. I'm all over the place and look for mostly punk, indie, electronic, or novelty records. The friends I'm going with will be more skewed towards indie.

Thanks again to everyone who recommended Reckless Records in Chicago. I kind of went overboard, but here's what i ended up with: AFI - Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (deep maroon-ish) AFI - Very Proud of Ya (lilac) Bouncing Souls - Anchors Aweigh (black) Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates (10 year remaster, translucent gold) No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom (orange, bought for my boss as a going-away present) Cheap Girls/Lemuria Split 7 inch (maroon) Cold World - You're an rear end in a top hat 7 inch (black, mistaken for Cold World from Wilkes-Barre) Cold World/War Hungry Split 7 inch (black, and the right Cold World this time) The Ergs! - Thrash Compactor 7 inch (black) Amazing selection, so much more I wanted to buy too. Makes me wish I lived closer or that Pittsburgh had a better selection. Then at Pitchfork Fest Saturday I nabbed: Japandroids - Celebration Rock (white with photo booklet) Japandroids - Post-Nothing (black) Owen - At Home with Owen (black) The Ergs! - Blue 7 inch (blue) So yeah. Couldn't pass up Japandroids and Owen at $10 each from Polyvinyl. They were sold out of the American Football self-titled by the time I got there, but I can't complain about much else. Very pleased with my haul and color selection. Once I find my camera cable, I'll upload some pics. And for reading all that, you can use the code P4K12 until October 31st at the Polyvinyl Store for 20% off your order. Cheers!

LtTennisBall posted:who was selling Ergs records at Pitchfork Fest? I believe it was the Saki store. They had a bunch of used 7" in a box to go through, but for $2 I can't complain at all. There was a lot more punk than I expected, although a lot of it was marketed as Out of Print or rare underground.

Going along with the storage questions, I'll be moving and need to keep my records in a storage locker for about a week. It's indoors and plenty big, I'm just wondering what the best route is. Looking to maintain condition as best as possible, but I only have a few plastic vinyl bags. Suggestions on what to keep the records in and then what to do as far as boxes are concerned?

FateoMcSkippy posted:Bouncing Souls - Comet I picked up a copy today because Hot Topic has BOGO 1/2 off, so I got that and Hot Water Music - Caution for $20 total. The album is alright, sounds like most other of their albums with but not quite as catchy, but the cover jacket for that one is of the better I've seen recently. The deal is also valid online, so if you still haven't bought In/Casino/Out, you can use that and something else too. Hot Topic is kind of surprising me for its quality of punk vinyl.

Got these today: Minus the Bear is the clear vinyl (1000 pressed) and sexy as hell. Been meaning to pick up EitS, and they just got Flying Lotus in when I got there, so I couldn't say no. Moby was $2.50 for the We Are All Made of Stars remixes. Some other recent pick-ups I've been slacking on: Is the Broken Bells s/t out of print? I was on the fence about buying it until I saw it's almost impossible to find online. Such Gold is a nice orange marble color out of 250. This is mostly just funny stuff that came into our store that I had to buy.

After getting some more records in the mail and testing things out, I've come to the conclusion that my turntable is playing slightly faster than it should be. A song that MP3 rips have times of 3:47 play at about 3:40 on the record, making it ever so slightly different and very frustrating. Considering I paid $12 for this one at Goodwill and it lasted a year, should I just purchase a new one? And on that note, what would you recommend? I wouldn't need anything terribly fancy.

I had a great time in Pittsburgh at Sound Cat. Cool people around to talk to while we waited in line, free donuts from the sweet bakery down the street courtesy of the store owner, and I got everything I was really looking for except for the Title Fight/Touche Amore split. Did get At the Drive-In, Owen, and Titus Andronicus for me and the Fela Kuti for my boss plus the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor and an Andrew WK Party Til You Puke promo. Pictures really don't do Relationship of Command justice, it's a sweet package.

Cross-posting from the punk thread, but I was surprised by how many people lamented missing the Title Fight/Touche Amore split on RSD. Deathwish has the rest of the pressing (though none of the RSD-exclusive red) up on their webstore here. Figured I'd share, just ordered mine in pink, along with Code Orange Kids.

For those wanting Relationship of Command but not wanting to shell out for the RSD version, the band announced on its Facebook a standard edition on August 6th (and apparently the 5th in the UK) Pre-Orders available on this UK site. Got my Devil and God repressing Just like the CD, there's a giant sticker of the title and stock number on the front. Downside is it's applied directly to the artwork and doesn't seem willing to come off without leaving at least some of it behind. Any recommendations for getting stickers off that won't pull the jacket either?

I received my Oldies order (three LPs in one record mailer) without any trouble or damage. The Maserati jacket is pretty slick with its embossing.

Thanks for posting, ordered five albums in two shipments and was told they should arrive on the 26th. It can be overwhelming to go through, but if anyone is doubting it, I spent about $65 on five albums with shipping and taxes that would have cost $120 on Amazon. I understand the need to support local stores, but this is insanely good. As far as its length, I don't see anything that mentions the items being closeout or discounted other than a few with a strikethrough and a new price below in red. So maybe it's permanent. And I get paid again on Thursday

I don't know what kind of record stores you guys go to but all of the ones I've hit up over the years have limited you to one-per and then after a certain time (sometimes a few hours after open, other times the next day) you could buy more. That said there's nothing on any of the rumored lists for this year that interests me, so I guess that's one less thing to deal with.

I got the Botch and Dads records from this year and the Cloud Nothings/Relaxer split from last year for me, then the Churches EP, Gram Parsons, Haim, Fela 7", and Ghostbusters single for a friend who couldn't make it.
