Oh hey, a vinyl thread. I've been collecting mostly punk and hardcore records for some time now. Here's a few of my more listened to purchases from the past few years:

I completely dorked out when I spotted the Repo Man soundtrack at a Reckless Records nearby, and it's been one of my favorite finds yet. The Cock Sparrer "Shock Troops" LP is a limited reissue, not an original print.

I've thought about buying Throb Throb so many times but I keep putting it off. Naked Raygun, Bhopal Stiffs, Pegboy, Chicago punk, these are all good things.

I wish someone would reissue "Something That No One Else Could Bring" becuase it has their 4 best songs on one 45. I think because Factory issued it there might be a problem getting the rights. I'm going to suggest it to Drastic Plastic or Captured Tracks even though they would never listen to some random customer in a million years.

What are you some kind of fancy-pants music connoisseur? People don't want to hear deep cuts, they just want the same 40 songs played over and over on every station.

I'd be interested in 70's funk (small label) 45s and maybe some of the NY 12"s.

If you're looking for easy listing and set prices and plan on letting them sit and sell, then I'd say Discogs over GEMM, especially for 12"s.

Discogs charges 8% and it has a wantlist function, the interface is better than GEMM too. I'd love to see big collections on SA mart but discogs will email prospective customers if you take the time to set up a store.

Anyone has recommendations for frames you use for your records? I'd love to hang up some of my favorites.

Urban Outfitters has some album frames for $10 a piece. If you have a craft store like Michaels nearby you might be able to get them cheaper. Urban Outfitters usually has free shipping on orders over $50, fair warning though, there is a good chance that the glass in the frames will get smashed. I'll post pictures of mine if you want.

hatelull posted:

No. :( If it was an original, I would have just been a tool and framed it or something. That's an 180g re-pressing. I think they repressed all of them in 180g back when they albums were getting the remaster/repackage treatment from Rhino. I have the 180g re-releases of their first two LP's plus that Honey's Dead and I'll probably stop there. Stoned and Dethroned is something I've never seen around here on vinyl, and Automatic absolutely drops off after "Head On."

I would however, probably pay stupid amounts of cash for a vinyl release of Barbed Wire Kisses.

I wish they would release Munki on 180g. Sometimes it seems like Rhino has re-released every post-punk LP in existence.

yeah not to derail record collecting talk too much here but the idea that an album is less a "collection of songs set down on record" than "a single flow of songs in particular order with possible narrative" is a very new and western rock oriented idea, so don't hang on that too too much.

Concept albums date back at least 50 years and I'm guessing that symphonies like Eroica were the next thing to be etched on wax after "Mary had a little lamb". I think there are a lot of hip hop artists that would disagree that their albums are just 10 songs they wrote and happened to publish at the same time.

I'm helping someone sell a record collection and I could use some pointers. Most of it is some record of the month classical music collection from the "musical heritage society". I know they're not valuable but they need to be sold and I'm not sure how to bundle them. Would they sell better grouped by composer or by collection number?
