Good pool? gently caress: It appears that the group has already decided on Monte Carlo without my opinion. Hopefully it doesn't suck. Anyone have any tips for getting a cheap deal on a hotel room there? I found a coupon for two free buffets with your stay, but from what I have heard their buffet is pretty bad. You can easily walk to the Cosmo (just go through Aria and City Center to the outdoor bridge to the Cosmo) for some good eats (Wicked Spoon buffet, Holsteins alcoholic shakes and burgers) and clubbing (Marquee dayclub and nightclub). Across the street is Planet Hollywood for some shopping and Earl of Sandwiches if you want some super tasty sandwiches. Bellagio is just to the left of the Cosmo for more good eats (Olives) and they have an ultra lounge, Hyde, that's pretty nice. I don't recommend eating at the cafe at Aria. I hear their pastry shop is good though.

I usually just bring all my cash with me and stick most of it (along with my passport) in the room safe once I arrive. I've been to Vegas 7 times and this has never been an issue. Or you could get Traveller's Checks before leaving if you'd rather not carry all that cash. Casino cashiers will cash those no problem and take less than 30 seconds to do it.

Why not just get a travel visa card if you are that worried about fees? Those cards you pre fill with however much US Dollars you need and act just like an ATM card.

Thinking about going to Vegas with my girlfriend on the 8th and leaving on the 14th. Anybody have suggestions on how to have the most relaxing yet entertaining 6 days possible on a 4-5k budget (i.e., spa treatments, beautiful hotel rooms, good food, and great shows)? I'm thinking the Mandarin would fit the bill nicely, but would love to hear any other suggestions and any tips on how to make my money go the furthest at a luxury hotel.

Their room elevator core is on the wrong side of the casino from the Strip sidewalk. So it's a long way out if you want to go walk with the masses along the road. On the other hand, a tram to Aria and Bellagio is very close by, so you can use the place as a hotel, while going downstairs and roll to a much nicer property to have your casino resort experience. diapermeat posted:In-room safe.. are they safe? I did time at the Luxor and it wasn't pretty. Like others have said its aging badly. Their casino drink service is poor. It was the first of the themed casinos. Though they do offer their players cheap rates. Last email I got from them was a suite for $60 and I'm far from a high roller. Though MGM has merged their player cards so you could get player rates at any of their properties. That's the way I understand it anyway

Quick thoughts on my trip to Vegas: Atomic Testing Museum Worth every penny to visit. It's not a very interactive museum but it definitely presents the whole story of nuclear testing and just how wacky the post-WWII area and how the media portrayed the world literally like Fallout New Vegas. Hoover Dam It's a 30 minute drive to see this piece of American history. Really worth the drive. There is nothing else like it. The scenery is amazing. Lotus of Siam Totally worth the trip. It's really not far off the strip at all but your GPS will take you to an empty storefront. The restaurant is behind that desolate storefront. Great pork blood vermicelli. Lee's Sandwiches A little bit farther from the strip but they make their own French baguettes and then they shove them full of Vietnamese meat and vegetables. If you've never had "Banh Mi" then you have to come here. Also dirt cheap. Rio Buffet DO NOT EAT HERE. I mean the Carnival World Buffet. It was comparable to a slightly better Old Country Buffet in terms of food quality. The prime rib was gristly. The desserts were awful. Honestly you're paying for a giant variety of mediocre food. The pizza was okay. Sam's Town Buffet DO NOT EAT HERE Paris Casino $20 margarita shaped like the Eiffel Tower lived up to expectations. Ellis Island Casino and Microbrewery Awesome drinks. $2 for a giant draft beer. They also make their own beer?!! Caesar's Palace Oddly felt very trashy and the ventilation seemed to have problems. Had some issues breathing in here and it felt stuffy. Also could not seem to flag down a cocktail waitress anywhere in the casino area. And I mean like in the "I am trying to buy a drink at the bar" sense. Wynn Casino Very clean. Very laid back. Newest casino on the strip as I understand. I liked this place a lot. Treasure Island Don't mind the awful decor, the drinks here were cheap and had at least five shots in there. I was blasted out of my mind in ten minutes. Machine Guns Over $100 to shoot fifty or so rounds? That's less than five seconds of sustained fire. Even though I live in Vegas, I just had one hell of a stay-cation this past weekend for my birthday. Where to find $10 Roulette table Bally's. Everywhere else was at $15. Also $10 Blackjack at Bally's. Wicked Spoon I have now had their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every meal is loving worth it. Their breakfast is only $22. Holstein's at the Cosmo Delicious, huge burgers at a decent price. Delicious alcoholic milk shakes. Hyde at the Bellagio After 10pm it turns into a club. It's a small club, top 40s spinning. Dance floor is small since the place is really all about the table service. Got a table right in the middle by the bar, overlooking the whole club. The dancers were pretty rad: V for Vendetta masks, feather dusters, some had cellophane dresses. The whole atmosphere just felt like money though. Planet Hollywood Pleasure Pool Cabana service is hella cheap. $400 for a cabana with one bottle. Food runs about $15 a plate and they're decent servings. Getting more alcohol was pretty cheap. Didn't get another bottle but I think they were like $250. Just got some sangria and beers I think?? I don't remember. Did a bikini contest, got $25 bucks and one hell of a great crowd. Lotus of Siam As Insane Totoro said, totally worth the trip. Taking the taxi to there from the strip is about $20. Good food, good service. Firefly on Paradise I love this place. Tried to eat there with a party of 8 on Friday around 8pm. Wait was an hour long and they don't take reservations on the weekend. We ended up leaving and just eating at Holstein's since we were on a time crunch. Marquee Nightclub By far my favorite club in Vegas. I'm totally into the electronica scene and this is the club to go to. Having a suite at the Cosmo this time around just made it that much better. Saturday night is the most expensive night though. Got the girls in for free, but guys had to throw down $60 each. TAO beach Small pool, no lounge chairs, all day beds or cabanas. I had a loving blast though because girls had open bar for an hour and I just hung out at the bar while watching the England/Italia game. Great crowd watching the game, bartender was pouring me some great drinks. I ordered their chicken caesar wrap - overpriced, too salty. Free to get in with even guy/girl raito, I was on a guest list though so I don't know if that makes a difference. The people at the pool were great. BT showed up out of no where and was spinning for the afternoon. Got him to sign my arm. I think that's everything I did for the weekend..

Had a really brief trip to Vegas last week. Sunday - gambled at MGM/Hooters for a bit, headed over to The Bank where we got some bottles and partied. Industry night there was fun, DJ played some old hiphop. Wandered the strip at like 5am. Monday - Pool at the MGM for most of the day, dinner at Stack at the Mirage. $125 for a four course + open bar for an hour and a half. Great eats. Went to Spearmint, but I had to bail early due to randomly bumping into some university friends. Caught up with my friends later and ended up over at Bill's for some beer pong/flip cup. Sidenote: Is Bill's a hotspot for drug dealers or something? Not exaggerating, I was hit up 3 times in about 4 hours by different dudes asking if I wanted to buy. Dunno if I just looked like a drug addict or what, but it was really bizarre. Hit my room at about 8am. Tuesday - More pool, bit of shopping and then flew home. Couple of questions: - Best breakfast in Vegas? Either cheap or tasty, I'd love to hear what people have for recommendations. - Anyone have thoughts on the Double Down Saloon? Found out about it after the fact and it's #1 on my list of places to check out when I come back in July.

Trip report for last week (mon-thurs) to Vegas. Amazingly hot weather, stayed at the Monte Carlo. Rooms were nice and clean, and our group of 12 were able to stay relatively close together. Monday night was a get drunk / gamble and walk the strip night. Ended up crashing at bout 2am - nothing crazy. Tuesday was laying around the pool / lazy river. Pretty nice, scenery was -ok- Pool water was pretty gross but I imagine with the amount of sun tan lotion and sweaty bodies that it would get pretty filth regardless. Tuesday evening was a guys / girls on their own. We ended up going to Excalibur for some food and gambling. Played some roulette and my buddy was pretty drunk at this point, the dealer asked us to put our drinks in the cup holders they have, next thing we know my buddy had poured his drink directly into it and was drinking out of it. Pretty damned funny at the time. After that it was off to Hustlers strip club. Never having been to strip club in the US / Vegas it was pretty crazy. Chicks were pretty hot there. Ended the night with 20 McNuggets around 5am Wednesday was more pool / sun and then hit the Bellagio Buffet (would recommend!) and then watched "O". Second row, was pretty amazing and would recommend to anyone. Loved it. Maybe 30-40 bucks a person tops, not including drinks (or less if you know of a great place!). Planning on going to Holsteins at some point for sure.

There are none on the "strip" if you're only counting the area between Mandalay Bay and the Stratosphere. But there is one on Las Vegas Blvd S at the outlet mall at Warm Springs. There's also one inside the Fremont casino downtown. For some reason, Dunks just doesn't work out here. They keep shutting down, or never opening in the first place.
