I'm thinking about taking a trip to Vegas and I have some questions, as I've never been there.
-When is a good time of year to go? I'm assuming spring or fall. I'd like to avoid huge crowds and extreme temps as much as possible.
-I'm not a huge gambler, will I run out of things to do in a week? Two weeks?
-What are comps and how (who) do I ask for them?
-How do I dress? Every movie I've seen has people in Vegas dressed in suits or dresses. Are jeans and dressy shirts ok or is that considered underdressed?

I'm sure I have other silly questions I'll think of later.

Still planning a trip to Vegas as a big vacation for next year. Looking thru all the hotels, are all of the casinos pretty much the same? For the hotels that advertise their own shows, theater, whatever...you have to pay for this, I'm assuming? So what's to prevent you from staying at one hotel and seeing a show or whatever at another? They're all pretty close together it seems...can't I just bounce around and see the sights at all of them?

As far as the hotels' actual rooms go, I doubt we would be spending much time in the room, but does anyone have any reccomendations? Advantages to staying in any particular hotel?

Okay, so I'm doing my room reservationa and paying for it ahead of time. (I got a standard "deluxe" room) When I get there, what's the proper way to ask for a nicer room? Give the person at the desk a $20 and hope for the best? I sound like such a loser but I've never planned a trip like this on my own, I've always gone with groups where everything was already arranged. On the one hand, how much time will I actually be spending in my room? On the other hand, I'd like to stay in a nice room, in a nice hotel. I don't get to go on many amazing vacations and I'd like to make it count.

Luxor is a shithole

Why?

Many reasons, but the primary is the roof in my bathroom caving in and spraying brown water all over everything we left out. Which wasnt too much, but still. Since the room was already comped, management apparently felt that there was no need to make any sort of amends.

Also the rooms (even the suites) are worse than a motel 8. Doors falling off cabinets, nasty carpet, terrible soundproofing. Still had CRT tvs in the suite, kind of funny.

Ummm, worst buffet I've ever seen in vegas. Actually nothing on the property I could find that I actually wanted to spend food comps on (although kellers burger bar is on the walk to mandalay).

Their shows are criss angel and carrot top.

Won their 'high roller' promotion, which was advertised all over the place that week, which was a table at LAX. They jammed us around the corner underneath the stairs at the back of the bar where it felt like you werent even in the club. With one bottle of lovely vodka, and tried to charge us like 200 bucks in 'tips' for the privilege.

Whelp, I already made my reservations, but that's kind of disappointing. All I need is a bed and a shower...don't plan on spending much time in the room anyway.

I see all these Starbucks in Vegas...any chance there's a Dunkin Donuts on/ near the strip?

What are my options for getting a tattoo in Vegas? Reccomendations? Places to stay away from?

I'd love to go hiking in Red Rock Canyon, maybe grab a bite to eat at Red Rock Resort. I've looked at the bus tours and it seems like they just drive you through it all. What's the best way to get from the strip to Red Rock Canyon so I can go do my own thing? Or am I wrong about the bus tours?

edit: So while looking at a map, I realized the casino is nowhere near the hiking trails. I'd still like to do both, but I'm more interested in the hiking.

I found a 50% off coupon for the spa at Mandalay Bay...I have room reservations at Luxor. Am I allowed to go to a spa at another hotel? Will I get charged extra for that? I'm paying a resort fee for my own hotel...should I just use what I'm paying for?

How far in advance should I make reservations for a weeknight dinner at Gordon RAnsey Steak at Paris?

I'm getting conflicting answers from Google. I'd like to go to the bar at Mix for the view of the strip. Is it seperate from the restaurant? Do I need to pay a cover? Do I need a resrvation?

Everything is expenive. You could probably get any of those at any buffet. Prices range but generally the more it costs, the better it is.

I'll be spending a week in Vegas in late March while my husband goes to a Frontsight :jihad: training course. Probably staying downtown at the Golden Nugget or 4 Queens. What is an older lady goon to do during the day all by her lonesome? I've already done the zipline and a helicopter tour and I don't like buffets or gambling much. Got my fill of sightseeing on the strip last June, but I guess I'll go see it all again. I think I might go on a horseback riding tour of the desert, but I want that to be at the end of the week as I will likely be sore afterwards. There are jeep tours of Red Rock, but I feel kinda weird going by myself - don't want to intrude on a family outing, has anyone done those before?

Are there any matinee shows you guys know of? Price is Right was a hot ticket item for daytime last summer, but I think it's gone now. Hubby will be back around 7ish, but will likely just want to eat and fall into bed, so I need to entertain myself.

I highly recommend Pink Jeep Tours. We toured Valley of Fire with them but they do Red Rock also. They pick you up and drop you off at your hotel with a Jeep that seats 10(?). There were 3 couples, including my boyfriend and I, and a few single people in our group so you wouldn't be intruding on anything.

Grand Canyon is absolutely amazing and worth a visit also. They do horseback riding in half hour/ hour/ two hour rides at the west rim of the canyon. If you're worried about being sore afterwards you could do a shorter ride.

I stayed at Luxor. The reviews for it aren't the best but we had no complaints. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. How much time do you really spend in your room anyway? The Mexican restaurant inside Luxor was pretty good. I can't really comment on the gaming options, all I did at any casino was put a few dollars into a slot machine.

Leaving for Vegas in the morning. Boston to Vegas, no stop. First time being on the West Coast period and I'm very excited. I'm staying at The Excalibur. Anything special in the town going on this week? (March 1st to 9th) As lame as it sounds, I'm pumped to check out Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Also definitely going to visit the Pinball Museum. Wanted to check out the Titanic exhibit if anybody knows it's cool or not?

The Shark Reef was pretty cool. I thought Titanic was interesting but my boyfriend was kind of bored. It's a lot of things they've salvaged from the wreck, like dishes from first class, tools from the workers, as well as a recreated staircase and a part of the ships deck.

If you like the Shark Reef, there's also the dolphins at the Mirage to check out.
