If you want a cheap hotel rate avoid Friday and Saturday nights. Monday night I paid around $28 for my room, Saturday cost me nearly 150$. I went with about 400$ and had more than a good time, there's a lot you can do without spending a lot of money. Go to Fremont street, cheapest tables and good bargains on food and drink. If the waitress brings you a drink tip her 1$, they will come back for you after that I like to play Blackjack and I won enough to pay for my meals and bus fare while I was there. Didn't have as much luck on the other games. Unless you're REALLY good at poker stay the hell away, my buddy was easily a few hundred deep in the hole when we left (probably more he was too embarrassed to say how much he really lost)...
