I was there a couple of weeks back and stayed in hostel cat downtown. While the hostel was great (apart from the lovely a/c) I would definitely recommend paying a bit extra to be on the strip.

It took an hour one night to get to the strip on bus because there's so many people getting on every stop and it became a major pain in the arse.
