Ask me how to run a good team into the ground.

Has anyone played any of the golf courses there? I'm going to be there at the end of October and have a day free while my wife is at a conference. I was debating finding a tournament to play in or playing golf. Still haven't made up my mind, although I may be leaning towards playing golf if the courses are nice. We're staying at the Wynn if that is in any way relevant.

Edit: I couldn't decide whether to ask this here or in the golf megathread, but decided to try here first.

I've played at 3 different courses down there over the years. The Revere Concord course was fantastic with lots of elevation changes and interesting holes. Red Rock Arroyo was also very good, though not quite as interesting. The third course I've played is the Mountain course at Angel Park, which was decent and less expensive than the other two, but nothing to write home about. All three courses were a bit of a drive from the strip, maybe 20 minutes or so.

Go to http://www.vipgolfservices.com/ and they have a listing of most of the courses around that you can play, along with green fees, pics and some more info. You can also rent clubs from them if bringing along your set is too much of a pain in the rear end.

Having said all this, I would say it's worth it to play a round. It's a nice break from gambling/booze and, for myself at least, the desert style courses are a nice change of pace from all the courses I usually play.

I can only answer a couple of your questions, but yes there is sometimes $5 craps on the strip. Usually it's during weekdays at the lower and mid-level hotels though, like Imperial Palace and Excalibur; though I've seen $5 craps at Monte Carlo at times too, which probably makes it your best bet for somewhere (relatively) nice. I doubt places like Bellagio ever have $5 craps, though to be honest I've never really looked.
I always have a blast playing craps at Excalibur though since people there seem a bit rowdier and more prone to yelling/cheering, which is half the fun.
The Casino Royale $3 craps game is always packed and it's usually tough to get a spot, from my experience at least.

Planet Hollywood definitely has a younger/hipper crowd and sounds like it might be a better match for what you're looking for. The rooms are nice, I like the casino and there's some good places to eat there. There's also no resort fees - gently caress resort fees.

I've only caught a few shows, but Penn and Teller was very mediocre. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of theirs (I was dragged there by some friends) so that might've had an impact.
I had fun at the Price is Right show at Bally's but it might not be what you're looking for. I'm sure others can offer better advice on this.

Coming from Canada down to Vegas on Monday.. So I have to exchange my cash over to US funds. Is it best to do it before I come down and carry ALL my cash on me?

I know debit fee's are pretty high down there.

In-room safe.. are they safe?

thanks

I usually just bring all my cash with me and stick most of it (along with my passport) in the room safe once I arrive. I've been to Vegas 7 times and this has never been an issue.

Or you could get Traveller's Checks before leaving if you'd rather not carry all that cash. Casino cashiers will cash those no problem and take less than 30 seconds to do it.

I went to Jean-Georges back in June and had a pretty good experience. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back simply because it wasn't outstanding and there are so many other restaurants to visit, but all in all, I was pretty satisfied with the meal and the service.

I'd honestly like to check out the Circus Circus steakhouse next time I visit, since it's apparently very highly regarded.

The newer properties have really good ventilation, along with higher ceilings, that make cigarette smoke much more tolerable. On the strip, this would be places like Aria, Wynn, Planet Hollywood, New York New York, Venetian/Palazzo, Bellagio and MGM.

For downtown, the Golden Nugget is probably your best bet but all of the main casinos around Fremont will be smoky to some extent.

Edit: Bring an oxygen mask if you go to the El Cortez.

Bally's, Harrah's, Monte Carlo and (to a lesser extent) TI all have some of the cheaper gambling on the strip if that matters to you. Havaing said that, none of them have any real "attractions" to it, though cheap gambling and rooms are an attraction for me personally. I guess there's the Sirens of TI free show but I've never seen it and it's supposedly really lame. There's a small shopping area in Monte Carlo, on the way to Aria, but it's nothing special.

I've never been to Riviera in my 7-8 visits and I haven't lost any sleep over that. The Tropicana has been remodeled apparently but I'm not sure if there's anything worth seeing there. It sucked before the remodel and I haven't seen it since.

I like Monte Carlo more (both the casino and the rooms) but I like Harrah's location better. If the prices are essentially equal, I choose Monte Carlo but there isn't really a bad choice here.

Whats the most fun craps on the southern end of the strip? I will be at mandalay bay next weekend.

Excalibur has cheap craps and the tables can be pretty rowdy and fun.

I don't know about subdivisions, but there is certainly a surplus of abandoned hotels and motels of all sizes.

My hands started sweating profusely watching him climb up the ladders at the end. Cool video though.

Another vote for it's safe from a crime stand point but it's not a particularly pleasant walk. Do it if you really feel like walking, otherwise take the shuttle or Uber/cab/Lyft it there, it'll be super cheap.
