Are there any GOOD cheap buffets or steakhouses left on the Strip? Or did something tragic happen between now and when I last went six years ago?

Quick thoughts on my trip to Vegas: Atomic Testing Museum Worth every penny to visit. It's not a very interactive museum but it definitely presents the whole story of nuclear testing and just how wacky the post-WWII area and how the media portrayed the world literally like Fallout New Vegas. Hoover Dam It's a 30 minute drive to see this piece of American history. Really worth the drive. There is nothing else like it. The scenery is amazing. Lotus of Siam Totally worth the trip. It's really not far off the strip at all but your GPS will take you to an empty storefront. The restaurant is behind that desolate storefront. Great pork blood vermicelli. Lee's Sandwiches A little bit farther from the strip but they make their own French baguettes and then they shove them full of Vietnamese meat and vegetables. If you've never had "Banh Mi" then you have to come here. Also dirt cheap. Rio Buffet DO NOT EAT HERE. I mean the Carnival World Buffet. It was comparable to a slightly better Old Country Buffet in terms of food quality. The prime rib was gristly. The desserts were awful. Honestly you're paying for a giant variety of mediocre food. The pizza was okay. Sam's Town Buffet DO NOT EAT HERE Paris Casino $20 margarita shaped like the Eiffel Tower lived up to expectations. Ellis Island Casino and Microbrewery Awesome drinks. $2 for a giant draft beer. They also make their own beer?!! Caesar's Palace Oddly felt very trashy and the ventilation seemed to have problems. Had some issues breathing in here and it felt stuffy. Also could not seem to flag down a cocktail waitress anywhere in the casino area. And I mean like in the "I am trying to buy a drink at the bar" sense. Wynn Casino Very clean. Very laid back. Newest casino on the strip as I understand. I liked this place a lot. Treasure Island Don't mind the awful decor, the drinks here were cheap and had at least five shots in there. I was blasted out of my mind in ten minutes. Machine Guns Over $100 to shoot fifty or so rounds? That's less than five seconds of sustained fire. I'd rather save up the money from this sort of nonsense to buy my own machine gun: http://tinyurl.com/4m7ra Insane Totoro fucked around with this message at 14:46 on Jun 25, 2012 |

What is an older lady goon to do during the day all by her lonesome? I've already done the zipline and a helicopter tour and I don't like buffets or gambling much. Got my fill of sightseeing on the strip last June, but I guess I'll go see it all again. I think I might go on a horseback riding tour of the desert, but I want that to be at the end of the week as I will likely be sore afterwards. There are jeep tours of Red Rock, but I feel kinda weird going by myself - don't want to intrude on a family outing, has anyone done those before? Take the course with him! I've always wanted to go...

Hey JaySB, I'm thinking about spending one or two nights in Vegas in August and the wife and I have already been through Lotus of Siam. What other sorts of interesting restaurants might you recommend with that kind of quality and price range? I'm thinking about "short of a Michelin star" but not "Cheesecake Factory" either. Basically, food that is of good quality, unique to the area, but not a $100 a head kind of place either. $40-$60 a head would be reasonable. Also I would stop and have a proper visit and bring the "musical instrument" cases and visit but it's only two nights and we're stopping in CALIFORNIA on the way.

JaySB posted:Raku and Yonaka are worth a visit, Musashi is great as well. For truly good food that's reasonable you'll have to go off strip. Any place that I'd recommend on strip is gonna be upwards of $100pp. There's some great Korean BBQ here, Hot N Juicy Crawfish is delicious and cheap but not exactly white table cloth. Further off strip Sen Of Japan is awesome. Mundo in the World Market Center is upper echelon Mexican food that is worth the price tag, should be close to $60pp. I should clarify that I would like it to be off strip.

So I was poking around hotel rates via JaySB and out of the following options, which are the better options? -Ballys -Planet Hollywood -SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino -Luxor -Rio My wife hates walking and driving in Vegas, so my gut feeling tells me that the SLS Hotel is good because apparently it has a monorail access point in the hotel. And she also likes modern luxury styling so that sounds good for her too. Does this sound about right? Edit: What the hell is wrong with the SLS? It's coming up on their website as $65/night + resort fee..... for a King room... with a $125 food and beverage credit. Insane Totoro fucked around with this message at 15:16 on Jul 6, 2015 |

She's married to a goon. Her expectations are already low. Oh hey I totally missed that there was a sweet rate at the MGM Grand too. I remember that hotel somehow having a meh reputation before. It seems to be better now on Tripadvisor. Can anyone confirm?

SLS sucks donkey balls? Even though it's brand new? I will definitely take your word for it though. Though in that kind of $60-$100 price range, are there any other hotels you'd recommend for the week of August 3rd? Insane Totoro fucked around with this message at 22:26 on Jul 7, 2015 |

drat. I know you know how it works though. Ooh good tips. That's kinda nutty you can drink for that "little" but hey Do poker bars (like in Atlantic City) still exist in Vegas where you can sit and play video poker (the wifey likes it) and basically void your wallet pain (with top shelf liquor) as she spins the thingies?

Luxor has the shabbiest looking lobby and casino and is really pretty trashy. Excalibur isn't much better even though it has the FUN DUNGEON (it is not a fun place) I think the MGM was literally $15 more expensive for me from Jay's page.
