SUBFRIES posted:Live recording from when I opened for Scottie B an Switch in DC. Kind of on the slower side of UK bass, but a lot of familiar names. I closed the party too, that was more of the rowdy stuff (Seiji, Canblaster, Redlight, etc.), but they didn't get that recorded. That's what I'm talmbout! Big up. Very nice. Read the blog post, too, that's definitely a good look - I know you're homies with Tittsworth, but that's good to hear he's cosigning you well enough on his blog.

TWSS posted:I made a vinyl mix and I'd like to share it .wav form. Does anyone know of good site for uploading 400mb files? You can upload it to soundcloud if it is less than two hours. Mixcloud also has unlimited upload limits. If you don't like either of those, then megaupload/multiupload. Though to be honest, I'd never listen to a wav of a mix.

Das Butterbrot posted:Why would that be? Did you just say you'd never listen to a non-compressed version of digital audio, or did I misunderstand you and you meant you'd only listen to mixes live at shows? lol By "mix" I didn't mean "mixdown." I mean like, a "DJ Mix." Why would I want to download 400 megs of a mix to listen to probably once and then delete? I can't tell the difference between wav and 320 anyway. So yeah, you're right, even though you've equivocated "dj mix" and "mixdown" (which, if you paid attention, I was talking about a DJ Mix), you happened to say something true, because I don't care if its an mp3 or a wav. They sound the same to me above 192kbps. Also 28gbb, soundcloud in their streamer just cuts it down to 128kbps. You can still download the full wav.

Maguro posted:No [seapunk is] a really really weird and dumb off shoot that a bunch of the "juke for nerds" started doing. That song linked sounds nothing like most of it tho, it's really just kinda atmospheric juke with a dumb name. "peasunk vol 1" Is a good free comp that will give you an idea of the sound. I know its a bit late but I'm going to try to make some things clear. Actually most seapunk doesn't really sound like juke at all, it's more about the attitude than the sound anyway, so even if it did sound like juke (which it doesn't), the name and attitude came before the music. here is a NY Times profile on Seapunk. I mean listen to Zombelle, the face of Seapunk, and you'll see that there is no resemblance to juke. Also real quick re: trap music. Hai already basically set the record straight but I think it was missed. Trap music is not just anything that sounds like Lex Luger - though that is the current sound at least - but trap music was again more about the content and attitude than it was about the sound. It's not some new thing that appeared when Lex Luger made Hard in the Paint, but has been around for a while. I mean, Young Jeezy (who has been recommended thank you hai) has been around for a while and none of the instrumentals he goes on sound like Lex Luger at all but Jeezy's I Got Money is pretty d*ng street (thank you DJ Toomp). The same can be said of T.I.. Really, this kinda stuff belongs in the rap thread. Sure Lex Luger instrumentals and the like can be found in sets on the boiler room and can be relevant etc, but that doesn't make it uk bass and a Lex Luger instrumental isn't automatically trap (I don't think anyone would call H.A.M. trap). Okay, enough of that now. Returning to what is relevant: Blawan's set at Boiler Room this past week was amazing. This was played and sounds like a newer version of Blawan's "His Money" but with a different sample from the same Fugees track (How Many Mics) and harder drums. Also the disclosure fact mix is great, I can't wait for that Dusky tune (or any of the new Dusky tunes) to drop. Kinda funny how they go from making basically cool handbag house on anjunadeep to getting played by loefah and friends. a milk crime fucked around with this message at 15:01 on May 6, 2012 |

HatchetDown posted:What are some good bass podcast feeds I can subscribe to? I've already got RA, XLR8R, Rinse, GetDarker, and Boiler Room. Are you listening to every BR/RA/FACT podcast? If you are, that means you're prob listening to a lot of just straight house and techno podcasts. In the past few months boiler room has had like Ben Sims, Sandwell District, Xhin, Jan Atkins, and RA has had Rrose, Shifted, Vakula, Kerri Chandler, Paul Woolford, etc. If you're listening to all of those every week, not just cherry picking the "bass djs" or whatever that you know and you still need more, then I'd recommend subscribing to CLR Podcast, Smoke Machine Podcast (http://soundcloud.com/smokemachinetaipei), going through old mnml ssgs podcasts, the smilecoldanatomy podcasts (http://smilecoldanatomy.blogspot.com/) Also, don't forget about MixesDB, you can look up your favorite DJs and see what mixes have been reported etc. http://www.mixesdb.com/w/Category:Nicolas_Jaar http://www.mixesdb.com/w/2012-03-23_-_SCB_%26_John_Osborn_Sub:stance,_Panorama_Bar,_Berlin_(ssgs_special,_2012-04-20) (this mix is great btw). If it doesn't give a link to a download, then it shouldn't take a whole lot of googling just to find a new podcast.

Maybe bass scene djs have began copycatting this movement at a large scale or something, and certainty people like julio bashmore are making music in this tradition very well, but even without that, this music would be made and has been being made. Yeah that's really about it. Mosca had a big hit last year with "Bax" and it was basically speed garage. Yeah, totally was clueless, thanks.
