Ah, apparently there's a volume licensing option on the Apple Store. It's discounted (for us, pretty heavily) per license and you get a download code for the App Store. You can then put it on however many machines you bought licenses for.

Depends heavily on what you want with it / where you're coming from. If you are a Windows user, TotalFinder rocks your world.

As far as iWork, yes, it's a separate package. It reads Office docs just fine, but it won't save them if I remember correctly.

Personally, I like them just fine for casual use, but if you're going to be doing heavy spreadsheet stuff, or having to do a lot of file exchanging with office apps, it's probably best to just get Office.

No, you have to boot off a disc (or USB I guess) to wipe the system. Do you really expect to be able to wipe a system while it's running?

I have a question about Lion that is also somewhat hardware related, so I think I'm going to cross post this.

My CEO has the newest MacBook Pro, and he uses it in the office. At his desk he has an external monitor that he hooks up to his computer, and he uses that instead. Before Lion he would power up the computer, close the screen to get the image on the second monitor, and then open the screen a bit for "ventilation".

I don't know how much of this is true, but he's afraid of it overheating with the screen closed entirely. However, with Lion just opening the monitor slightly wakes up that display. He doesn't want two monitors, but is also afraid of heat death of the computer.

Is there a way to turn off the MacBook Pro's screen? Right now the solution is to change the arrangement, and put the menu bar on top of the Samsung monitor, but when you put the Dock at the bottom of the screen it goes to the bottom of the MacBook's screen, under the external, in a monitor that's only open at a 15 degree angle. I had to put his dock on the left of the screen, which he dislikes. I need to restore this to it's default behavior of turning off the Macbook's screen when the external monitor is plugged in.

Another question would be if I turned on display mirroring, would it use the higher-res of the Samsung monitor? If it mirrors with black space that doesn't help either.

Just convince him to close it. It won't burn up.

As far as the mirroring display resolution, it will dumb down to whatever is the lowest common denominator.
