There's usually an iTunes Helper process running in the background. Maybe try killing that?

It was in the software update notes for Safari 5.1. I just saw the same thing today. My guess is they forgot to mention it's Lion-only functionality.

What is up with that? I've been told it's a webkit issue but Chrome on Windows animates gifs without a hitch.
