I bet it is harder to make it work on a device that weighs less than 2 pounds, considering it needs to disconnect for a tug, but not a hard enough tug that would cause the laptop to fly away.

Ahaha imagine if Avid did the same.
Literally none of their hardware or software supports El Capitan.

My loving sound card doesn't work anymore.

Avid is responsible for 98% of the kernel panics I've ever had. They take half a year to support the latest OS version. I would stay away from their software unless absolutely necessary.

Have it looked at and get an exchange if possible. I'm convinced these issues are down to hardware because I'm simply not experiencing them even though I'm using the same software.

brap

Yeah, even though the issue doesn't occur in Windows, it could still be a hardware problem.

Seriously, there are horror stories about trying to use AWS for personal backups. Leave that stuff for businesses that have really complex archiving processes that are overseen by dedicated ops people. Go with CrashPlan or Backblaze.

Might not be a bad idea as long as there really is an offender based on how fast the battery drained and how much the screen was on and stuff.

If you paid attention to the 1Blocker setup dialog, it has a whole host of filters enabled by default for blocking all manner of scripts that facilitate embedded comments. Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, you name it.

They also default to blocking about 20 different porn sites.

I really can't fathom why they would have that as a default behavior. Is it just for people who think they're above all the comments sections on the Internet?

So, I'm going to be away from my Time Capsule for the next few months. I'm using an external drive for that time to keep backups. I don't want to be nagged about not backing up to my Time Capsule. Should I remove it as a backup disk? Will I be able to resume from where I left off when I come back to the Time Capsule after the summer, or will it force me to do a complete backup and lose my history?

brap

The idea would be that I keep making Time Machine backups to my portable external and disable the Time Capsule backups temporarily.

I bought 1Blocker but quickly switched back to uBlock because it blocked things that should not be reasonably considered ads like Facebook comments.

Am I crazy, or did clicking an app icon in Mission Control bring up all the windows for that app before Sierra?

brap

No, just a plain old Dock, Mission Control and Finder on El Cap.

Any recommendations for PDF viewers that can handle highlighting in large documents well? Large documents meaning on the order of thousands of pages.

Preview hangs for several seconds when I highlight something in this document (note that's about 23 MB in size) and then claims "the original document can't be changed", forcing me to resave it where it was already located.

So, it seems like in Sierra, they made it so clicking on an app icon at the center of a window grouping in Mission Control no longer brings all the windows for that app to the top. What the gently caress is that about? Is there a way to restore the old (right) behavior?

Did the Dock get recently "fixed" so that you can't drag an item in a Stack to the Trash? When I click and drag, it just causes a box to be drawn around the item I'm trying to drag, and when I release, it opens the item. What the gently caress?

edit: I can't drag and drop in Finder either. 2013 MBP running Sierra. Weird.

So is there a mainstream fix for the High Sierra password vulnerability yet, or do I still have to go install a supplemental update manually? About to upgrade.

We are in the middle of relocating so I have been staying in a hotel since I’ve already started my new job. I came home this weekend to pack and decided I probably needed to back up my laptop to our Time Capsule since it had been a while. I got an error message saying that to improve reliability it needed to create a new backup for me. Is there something that causes this to happen or was it because it had been about a month since I backed up last? Kind of annoying to lose years worth of backups.

Honestly this really bugs me because it's a euphemism for "Whoops, we just noticed your backups are spontaneously hosed! Can we just start again from scratch?"

Does anyone have the slightest idea why this checkbox is grayed out in Music in macOS 10.15.1? I've googled it every way I can think of and I can't find an answer. This is really loving with me, I've added some mp3s to the music app and can't figure out how to get them onto my iPhone without deleting all my Apple Music downloads on the phone, and then replacing the music library with a manually managed set of music from my laptop.

In case anyone wants to know, logging out of my Apple account in the Mac music app and logging back in fixed it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
