HTML5 posted:I'm looking for some kind of file synchronization solution that would behave like Dropbox, but would sync any folders I select on my computer to a server of my choice, since I have my own hosting and would like to not have to "upload" files manually with FTP. Does such a thing exist for OSX/is there a smarter solution for this? http://sparkleshare.org/ Essentially this is a front-end for git. Works pretty well on Snow Leopard and Linux, not so well for Windows, not at all for Lion (yet). Dropbox is essentially a slick front end to SVN + rsync, so you could roll your own with a little effort. Lum_ fucked around with this message at 17:50 on Jul 22, 2011 |

Tutu posted:I don't see what the point of this post is? Nothing Apple is doing is totally new with 10.8 , it's just slick and refined, and people will actually use it unlike half those Windows features. To be fair he was right on one thing, OSX really needs a OneNote.

Demos posted:I guess I'm just curious if anyone's actually switched to Messenger from other clients. Yo, that would be me. Adium > Messages: ------ MSN support Wacky skins Messages > Adium ------ iMessage support (killer app for most people - answer texts from your pc? yes plz) AV chat support Way more attractive UI Super-easy chat transcript search Super-easy interface for sending messages (start typing name, it autopopulates from address book) Neither Messages nor Adium ------ Skype support (Adium has it in a hack but all it does is echo from a running copy of Skype) Adium is slightly better than iChat unless you need AV chat. Messages blows Adium away.

Ran Mountain Lion for a couple of days but I'm going to roll back. Nothing at all compelling about running it right now (the best part is Messages, which is out for Lion!) and a ton of apps aren't compatible.

priznat posted:What's the best Python development environment on OSX? Xcode + use PDB for debugging? I use SlickEdit, it just had a native OSX version come out (earlier versions ran in Java similar to Eclipse) and does pretty much everything. I use it for Lua and PHP mostly but pretty sure it has Python debugger support. http://www.slickedit.com/products/slickedit-for-mac

Don't ever work for a Korean company, then. The Korean government made all of its mandatory-for-citizens online apps IE ActiveX controls, so pretty much every Korean web app is IE only now. Yes, it's as painful as it sounds. http://blogs.wsj.com/korearealtime/...rce=twitterfeed
