Just wanted to say that while I don't envy your position, I have enjoyed reading your story and your efforts to change your lifestyle and reduce your debts.

The progress you've made in the past year or so has been pretty impressive, all told. $17k of debt paid off is nothing to sneeze at.

The idea of PE classes that aren't just pass/fail is nuts to me. How in the hell do you say one guy has a B+ in vollyball and another guy has an A-? Obviously it's based on "doing the movements right" but that's clearly biased towards whoever happens to be in the best physical shape, and that's not exactly what an academic performance rating system is for, you know?

This is how gym was graded in my high school. We had occasional assessments on rules of the game we had learned, but you were graded subjectively based on your participation. If you didn't look like you were trying hard enough, the teacher would ask you to sit out -- whether or not you actually were trying. My gangly post-pubescent self was pretty awful at basketball, and I got a B in 10th grade gym because of it.
