Kvatch doesn't burn down until you get a little ways through the plot in Oblivion. It's still intact at the start of the game and iirc you can even go there.

I think if you go there before the main quest sends you there, it's blocked off and guards say there's some weird poo poo going on so you can't enter. There's a mod where you can participate in rebuilding it after the end of the main quest, though.

I read this at work, actually enjoyed it a lot more than the actual game. The art is great and it's funny as hell. Couple things really bugged me, though, to the point where I didn't really bother to go back and read it past the point I left off:

1. The way he plays the sexuality. He has the character's clothes fall off every 10 panels and makes innuendos every 2 or 3, and then acts all superior and squicked out when the thread gets people saying "she's hot!! have her gently caress so-and-so!!" And then draws some more lizards in panties. YUP ALL PART OF THE STORY

2. 95% of the time, the character is really cute and likable and sympathetic, but then out of nowhere there's these super conservative/misogynistic shots. "If only you hadn't had too much to drink, you wouldn't be such a slut! You might even still be a virgin! It's your fault you got raped by an orc!" It's like holy poo poo dude. Slow your roll.

I dunno, I think those clothes off moments were more about comedy than sexuality. And even if he was going for innuendo it's kind of a big leap to go from there to lesbian interspecies sex. Either way I got the feeling that he set those situations up just so that he could go "haha psych she's not at all interested in other girls."

I see that as being more anti-alcoholic than misogyny, since she does things that are bad regardless of gender while drunk. Blacking out and having sex with a skeleton isn't really acceptable whether a man or woman. And I don't think that was rape or anything, just more of the aforementioned bad decisions. Still, I'm not really sure if we're supposed to take his voice as her own conscience or what. That's the way I've read it, anyway.

Huh. Kazerad showing up in the thread wasn't something I anticipated. Well, I guess I'll pull a flip-flop and post a little criticism that I didn't really feel the need to make an MSPA account for: I feel like we're not seeing enough of Katia's personality, specifically what she's like when she's drunk. Right now all we get are her taking a drink, a blackout, then her waking up. This is good for comedy purposes along the lines of "oh, look at this strange situation you've woken up in you little scamp!" But as a result, we basically only see her when she's a quivering neurotic mess trying to make up for mistakes we never saw. So our view of Katia is skewed heavily towards her sober side, in which she's nice and helpful but has a string of bad luck. But for Quill-Weave and other characters, the other half is when she's drunk and trashing a house. So when those characters react accordingly, the audience can't help but feel like Katia always deserves a second chance when maybe she actually doesn't. I think it's important to see her fail in a way that's not adorable and unintentional.

Yeah. I'm fine with never seeing what she does while drunk. I took the black-out-fade-in to show her losing complete control of herself. Could have a bit of it shown from the POV of Quill-Weave, but I'm fine with most of it being done off-screen so the audience can fill in the horrible details in their own mind. Such as what the 'pineapple and yo-yo trick' is.

Oh sure, there never needs to be more exposition on the pineapple trick or her deviant sexual escapades, I just think that if she goes into drunk mode again it might be good to have some of that shown. Then again, when I actually imagine it, it pretty much just looks funny. So my idea kind of falls apart.

I'm curious what about his style is being lifted. I've never gotten around to slogging through MSPA so I pretty much only have all the avatars on SA to go by. It did seem like the sort of jumpy animation Prequel has is similar to the way the avatars move.

I don't read the other thread; were there actually that many responses involving Dmitri dying? Or more than one mentioning Kvatch? Because I pretty much always assume that, unless the author of a CYOA is only giving multiple choice options, what QueerPope said is what usually happens. I don't really have a problem with that because only using audience input will just turn your comic into porn, eventually.

I dunno, things have started turning around for Katia. She was able to go to the fancy dinner without freaking out or causing a scene, she's learned some magic, she's gotten her fire thing under control, and she's made some friends and connections. I was actually starting to wonder where all the tragedy had gone.

I guess the biggest thing to make sure you're doing is resisting the urge to draw things out for longer than necessary. Possibly my biggest peeve with all types of story-telling (or all forms of writing, really) is when an idea, conversation, plotline, or whatever takes longer than is necessary to be expressed. You're probably at lesser risk of this since you're still on the "starting out" phase and don't have as much of a reason to have the story drag on and on instead of ending it and risking losing readers.

On this point, even thought this is a CYOA, do you at least have a general outline for important events in the story and an idea for an ending? I'm not asking what they are, just curious if you have them.

As for whether this part of the story is dragging, I'd say yes, a little. That's probably influenced by the delays, but I guess it would have been possible to condense what's happened in the past four updates. Just with a quick skim, it looks like these are the important parts and/or gags: Saint Jiub, big bag o' drugs, stabbin' and shroomin', Kvatch/Sigrid, and ghost-ride the corpse. That's not bad, mostly because this is a comedy webcomic and I primarily come for silly drawings of a cat lady, not plot. I think you're still fine.

Also there's a new update in case anybody missed it: http://prequeladventure.com/2011/09/katia-loot/

Speaking of class mobility, Elder Scrolls games are pretty the ultimate Libertarian wetdream. You start off penniless and are possibly an ex-con but you become a lightning-spitting kill machine able to buy and sell entire communities just by working your way up and bootstraps. Good thing the Imperial government doesn't stifle the economy by overregulating the guilds.

The fire stuff is probably a red herring, meant to get people who've played the game all wonder-y. It'll probably be something innocuous. Or maybe some other large scale problem besides the Oblivion one. Or maybe he KNOWS we'd be suspicious of such an obvious call-back to the game (or maybe it's a call-forward to future events) and it actually IS happening now. Layers within layers, man.

Yeah, it's what everybody does, but I kind of assumed that people drawing something in a cartoony-style (which is a pretty lovely descriptor, but good enough for my purposes) made the decision because they had some reason for it other than not wanting to draw extra fingers. Is it really just because everybody else does it that way? It seems like I've seen similarly styled stuff with 5 fingers. Kinda like the Limbaugh in the avatar above me.
