Hrm. Need to figure out what to turn off to improve FPS. I'm floating around 20-25 going through cities right now.

Ideas on what to do without completely sacrificing graphics quality?

did that, and Seyda Neen walking around was still 20-25 FPS.

Here are my specs, btw

Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3 Ghz
Geforce GTX 460 w/ 1GB Ram
8 GB DDR 3
Windows 7 64-bit.

I'm playing the game at 1920x1080, and here are my MGE XE settings:

AA/AX are at 2X, Shaders are turned on. Horz FOV is at 75%, FPS limit is 45. Fog Mode is set for Depth Pixel (Fast)

Under Distant Land setup:
World Texture Res is 2048, World normalmap Res is 1024
World Mesh Detail is set to High
Minimum static size is 150, Grass density percent is 50, Mesh Detail is set to full, Mipmap levels to skip is 1. Activators, interiors behaving like exterior and interiors with water are all checked.
Draw Distance is 20 Cells, Sizes are 150/600/800
Auto-set other distances is checked and set to Draw DistSky, landscape and nearby statics are checked for water reflection
Height of Waves and caustic intensity are both 50%.

HDR Reaction time is set to 2 seconds, Dynamic lighting is set to Quadratic 10, Linear 1.730 and Constant 0.191.
The Excess Junk tab is all greyed out, but Enable Fog is checked, as is Bind AI distance to draw distance. Shader model 3 is enabled.

What would b e the best way to improve my FPS?

Edit: In-Game options are:

AI Distance is one notch from all the way on the left. View Distance is set at about 80%, Gamma is about 50%, and Real-Time Shadows is one-notch from the left.

Loaded game, and 15-25 FPS in Seyda Neen. Turned off Real-Time shadows, lowered View Distance to about 65%, no change to FPS.

Turned off AA/AX, no change at all. In fact, FPS in Seyda Neen went down to about 15 FPS when looking at buildings and moving.

That got me about another 3-5 FPS. The lighting was from ASE, I believe.

Wondering if maybe I need to run the MGSO options again and check a few things there.

What it is NOT:

Shaders: turned them off, FPS didn't change.
In-Game AI Distance: It's very low, no change.
In-Game Real-Time Shadows: It's off, no change.
AA/AX: No change when turning them off.
Distant Draw as a whole: I turned that off, FPS went up another slight tick.

Yes, I realize, it could be mods /in general/. I'm saving that one for down the line, though.

Okay.

If I strip down to ONLY base game + MGE XE + Morrowind Patch 1.6.5. BTB, and load a new game, I get around 30-40 on the ship (outside) and 26-29 walking through Seyda Neen.

This tells me my mods are only losing me about 4-5 FPS, if that. Am I wrong in thinking I should have MUCH higher FPS with my system?

There's the Morrowind Code Patch 2.0 which only has a showcase .esp, and then there's 1.6.5 BTB edit, which has an .esm. I've got both.

So I'm playing, and doing a Let's Play, and there's 2 people right at the edgeo f Seyda Neen. AS soon as they see me, they summon Ancestral Ghosts and attack. Obviously, I die. Often.

Any idea what mod might be causing this? I do have the Delayed Brotherhood Attack mod enabled...

It may be. I don't have MCA (I did Starfire's NPC Mod), but here's my load list. I haven't been able to get either of the NPC's names. The kicker is that since they summon Ancestral Ghosts, I can't attack /either/ of them 'cause normal weapons do no damage. I do know that Necessities of Morrowind make this harder because of having stamina turned on, so I fall to the ground defenseless when I run out (and the ghosts damage stamina).

edit: Holy poo poo, I just blew my mind. Weapon damage isn't random, it's based on how far back you wind up before you release the attack button; that's why fast weapons have a higher min damage (and how enemies took thirty hits to die). Now the game's just going to be even easier.


Since they kill me so quick I can't catch their names, is there a console command I can use to determine this?

The mobs are not standard Morrowind ones. Not sure which mod is adding it, but they're tough.

Tadali Seren and Neldammu Llaren.

So out of curiosity, I've been adding mods and testing after each one, and didn't run into any errors until I installed 2 mods back to back.

Then I got missing textures while running Distant Lands, as so:

1 Warning: Texture 'bar_railtop01.tga' could not be converted to a distant texture, original texture will be used
2 Warning: Texture 'tx_ex_windmill_01.dds' could not be converted to a distant texture, original texture will be used
3 Warning: Texture 'tx_furn_glasspane_01.dds' could not be converted to a distant texture, original texture will be used

Does anyone have a freaking clue about how Merged Objects are supposed to work, and how you're supposed to figure out which mods need merging?

You can do it, but it requires creating a mod where you write your own script that uses the streammusic command. You then attach it to an activator and put it in every cell you want to play a specific file in the Construction Set. This guy has all the details on how to do it.


That also might be why I get similar errors when I switch tree mods. I'll add this link to the OP and make sure to emphasize backing up the ini file.


I completely did not understand how to do it with TESTool. I ended up getting one created in SmartMerger, but it's yellow in WryeMash, and gives an error when I try to right-click on the masters:

Note: The problem with TESTool is that I have too many mods for it. If I knew which mods needed to be in the MergedObjects, I could narrow it down some. That's where my problem lies, to be honest.

After removing the merged objects and all, these are the only errors I have in warnings.txt

Enchanting 'sparkbolt_en' has invalid cast type for object 'sparkbolt ring'.
Texture "Data Files\Textures\@_metal_pewter_04_nm.dds" count 3.
Texture "Textures\_land_default.tga" count 3.
Texture "Data Files\Textures\vfx_flare02.dds" count 3.
Texture "Data Files\Textures\reflection.dds" count 6.
Texture "Textures\menu_thick_border_bottom_right_corner.dds" count 2.

The last 5 change every time, just need to figure out what's causing the first one.
