Oh shittttt. With Flea or without?

Wonder if they're actually gonna do a legit tour or just play a few festivals.

They've just announced it on twitter but no details about lineup or further dates. With a lot of Omar projects the lineup is a bit of a mystery until the first date - at least this time you'll have a vague idea of what they'll play before you buy a ticket.

US tour. Judging by Cedric's comments on Facebook, Dave Elitch will be on drums but I've not seen him mention who will be on bass.

This will definitely get more play from me than other projects. Pretty straightforward throughout, only one or two songs that I didn't really like on first listen.

Also terrible US tour.

Only listened to it all the way through once so far. The singles are still strong and Momento Mori is dope but otherwise none of the other new tracks sound very memorable. I'm gonna listen to it again later though.

I really like the new album. I wish it were more experimental and ambitious like the Volta stuff, but there are a lot of solid tunes on this one. The only track I'm not feeling is the last one (and maybe 50000 Kilowatts).

I like noctourniquet a lot. Some of Omar's solo stuff with deantoni parks is similar, if you've never checked it out. vocalists are usually pretty sounding spanish women.

Noctourniquet was great! This sounds like the come-back album that TMV would make if they were a dad-rock band.

Noctourniquet has some alright songs, but man, I'd rank it above Octahedron but that's it. Every other album TMV put out was more interesting.

I was saying earlier that this is what ATDI would've sounded like if they were responding to 90's radio rock instead of punk.

In my mind Deloused and Frances stand alone as iconic experimental rock albums, Ampu is a severely underrated album that isn't quite as good as either of the preceding ones (most likely because it's an unconfirmed polished up, salsa'd up, collection of unused tracks), Goliath is just a tiny bit below Deloused and Frances, and the last two felt bogged down probably by drama, Omar's boredom with TMV, and everyone elses boredom with some of his more insufferable solo work tendencies. The best thing I can say about Octa and Noc are that they sound like they're progressing towards a new sound that could result in a really good album kind of like the progression from Ampu->Goliath.....but neither of them are anywhere near as good as Ampu and we never got the payoff, so gently caress em.

That's my opinion.

damn i'm really in this bitch

My opinion is that Amputechture is garbage and the worst parts of TMV's excess and made me skip Goliath (good), Octahedron (eh), and Noctourniquet (good).

Even if I didn't like it I don't know if I could bring myself to hate a progressive rock album that features a bongo solo as its climax.

Amputechture is my favorite TMV record, almost entirely because of how balls-out insane and self-indulgent it is.

I think the most interesting part of this Antemasque album is their attempts at pop genres that I don't recall omar and crew ever even attempting before. 50,000 Kilowatts sounds like a cover of a lost Fleetwood Mac song for gods sake.

Most of the album is kinda meh for me but Day of the Baphomets is a great great song

and yes Noctourniquet is a really good album, one of their best imo

He was on tour with Jack White in Mexico. Drugs and alcohol were present in his hotel room but no word on the exact cause of death yet.

My favorite bit of his in the TMV timeline is Scabdates. He's turned way up on the recording and makes you wonder why they didn't just do that all the time.

It came out in July for...people who pre-ordered it or something, I guess? But then the actual release of the album is in November? I don't know, the whole thing seemed kind of confusing and stupid to me.

So uhhh, this is what Antemasque has been up to lately:

quote:

Last year, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, formerly of the Mars Volta and At the Drive-In started a new band called Antemasque. Earlier this week, the band performed at Auckland, New Zealand's Westfest. Bixler-Zavala has been accused of throwing a plastic tea kettle containing boiling water into the crowd during the band's set, as the New Zealand Herald reports.

An attendee wrote to the New Zealand Herald that the tea kettle collided with him, splashing water over his and his friend.

Another audience member sent in a photo of what's allegedly the plastic kettle being carried around by someone who picked it up.

Other photos show Bixler-Zavala throwing multiple objects into the crowd.

We've reached out to Antemasque's publicist for comment. The Herald reports that the festival is "investigating the claim."
