I’ve found this one before, it was a massive 1-2” wide plaster crack just taped over and painted (by my landlord). Also in my renting history a few times I have found surprisingly minty holes that had been repaired according to an ancient life hack: filling them in with toothpaste and painting over (probably by a previous tenant, hope they got that security deposit in full).

They started to decline in numbers about 20 years ago. Most of them were destroyed in the 1990s and the ones that were held onto by the elderly or abandoned in place started to disappear around 2000-2005. By now, I think the majority of sources you'd think would still have one laying around have been depleted and even the type of home you're describing disposed of theirs a long time ago.
I suspect the current "grandma died and we have to sell the house now" giant TV is in the 600 pound 30" "flat screen" that's somehow three feet thick category.

In the UK if you build something without planning permission and get away with it for 4 years it becomes immune from any action. However the law is about to be change so that 4 years becomes 10 years, which is a bit unfortunate for all the people who try to sneak an extra house on to their plot, or a caravan in a woodland/farmland, or whatever.
