Maybe I'm old and cranky but your OP is poo poo and irritating and I'm assuming you just stumbled onto 'shoegaze' over the weekend or something.Rageaholic Monkey posted:
Perhaps you're deaf but they sound like the Smashing Pumpkins. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

The Joy Formidables are pretty popular and kind of boring so I guess they fall in the shoegaze bucket.

hatelull posted:I'll go ahead and drop Curve into the mix here. Toni Halliday and company actually turned with the Jesus and Mary Chain and Spiritualized (where Spiritualized actually opened for everyone) on the stateside Rollercoaster tour. Dean Garcia's latest band, Spc Eco, is pretty cool too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4NTOUo6zlE

I think it's because it sounds like it was written by a 14-year old twat and included anime and a picture of a shoe. Also what the gently caress is up with your avatar? Did you lose a bet? hatelull posted:That's his daughter on the vocals right? It's pretty solid stuff, and I feel ashamed for not mentioning it. Yes, definitely some solid releases.

Mowglis Haircut posted:You recognise...jokes, don't you? The Black Stones posted:The anime characters are from a anime called "Loveless" which I think is about boys wanting to gently caress each other. I'm not entirely sure as I never bothered to investigate for obvious reasons. There ya go. I guess I don't recognize 'jokes' that lack some modicum of wit. Also, that poo poo is creepy. To contribute: Catherine Wheel's earlier work had a spacey shoegaze vibe to it but they were never just 'shoegaze' (they could actually write a song). Some of their best tracks are missing from youtube but everyone should give Ferment and Chrome and whirl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF7UMEgou48&feature=relmfu The later CW work should probably be avoided though... Also, the space rock section is missing Hum and Failure.

TheIndividual posted:Yo La Tengo, though they aren't primarily a shoegaze band, have made some of the best songs of the genre. Also, Ira Kaplan is something of a guitar god. hatelull posted:Admittedly, I'm responding to this because your username is tits. However, this cannot be said enough. These guys will absolutely destroy live. I am rarely, if ever, a fan of live albums but their double disc Live at Royal Albert Hall is one of my favorite things ever. An absolutely brilliant band who totally deserve their own thread. New album next year! I couldn't get into Songs in A&E - sounded like a completely different band to me. Pierce may have lost it or something. hatelull posted:I was completely expecting that link link to be "Black Metallic", so thanks for the surprise. Couldn't find Balloon or Strange Fruit oddly.

This is more trip-hop than shoegaze but at least it's not from 1993 - Phantogram. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F2tfSnPPXg&feature=related I dig this tune but I'd say the majority of their material is stronger when the dude is not the lead singer.

is that the track where the kid is talking about frogs over an irritating repetitive piano line? that song sucks but steve mcqueen makes up for it.

lycheeee posted:Have you guys heard of The December Sound? I accidentally saw them at a little bar nearby last night and really enjoyed it, but it might partly be because it's been so long since I've been to a shoegaze show and damnnn, I forgot how much that reverb gets to me. They have about 15k listeners on last.fm which is pretty high for a smallish band, I'm wondering if their recordings are worth looking into? That was the second (possibly third) time I saw them. I think it was kind of rough going after Ghost Box though... I really dug that venue - I didn't know it was re-opened and I kind of want to book there.

I saw Alcest open up for Enslaved and while they were cool it would not be worth paying $75 for (imo). I think Ghost was supposed to be on the bill too but could not make it.
