I'd love to find some podcasts that focus on discovering new music. Hip-hop and electronic music in particular, but I'm open to most genres. I'm already listening to Sound Exploder which is pretty interesting, especially when artists get a little technical, but it's only one song at a time.

It really seems like there should be. It's hard to keep up with new mixtapes and artists and so on. Worth a try asking there.

I'm looking for a podcast episode that was probably on This American Life, but I simply haven't been able to track it down. It's about a highly educated woman who has terrible luck at online dating. She winds up creating a fake dating profile for her ideal partner, and then remodels her own profile based on those of the women who match with this dream man. Along the way discovering that her profile is written like a resume, and that cliches really do work.

Another request for history podcasts! Iiked the idea behind Hardcore History, but Carlin's intense voice and dramatic music is too over the top for me. Is there something of a middle ground between that and History of Rome? (which is downright soporific). Also, I too gave Sword and Scale a listen after a recommendation early in the thread, and gee, I sure regret not reading further! The dude interviewed a veteran 9/11 operator, which was genuinely interesting, except most of the episode was just playing hosed up call recordings and then asking the poor operator what he thought. 10 straight minutes of a lady breaking down after discovering her dead grandchildren Listen to Criminal podcast folks. It's good and not audio gore-porn.

Hey I’m trying to remember the name of a podcast. The premise is that the host is a comic who invites other people he knows in the industry to write scripts for well known popular tv series that they have never seen.

Thanks, that was it. Listened to the first episode. It reminded me of everything I dislike about The Big Bang Theory and not in a good way.

Any recommendations for journalism covering international politics? Specifically in-depth reporting and analysis, not daily news. Basically all I’ve got now is the The Intelligence (from the Economist magazine).

Thanks, I'll take a look at it. Also what are the others you were thinking of? I get everybody has an angle, The Intelligence is at least easy to figure out (neo-liberalism above all else). 99% Invisible is pretty hit or miss but they have a ton of episodes about urban architecture in the backlog that are worth a listen. I like the one where they spend 20 minutes talking about street curbs.

Any recommendations for reporting on current events, specifically international news? I currently listen to the BBC Global News Podcast but it's living on borrowed time now that the BBC's World Service budget is going to be cut down. I don't really care about the editorial leaning so long there is no disinformation and their biases are easy to figure out. Just want an international news update in the mornings. evilpicard posted:Can anyone explain the new season of Serial? That was kind of it, yeah. I think maybe they are trying to draw a clearer line between personal stories and reporting on larger political and social issues. They did get a lot of blowback from the first season, partly for making Adnan Syed a posterboy for police reform in Baltimore.
