One of my favorite podcasts, Extra Hot Great, will be ending in a few weeks. That made me realize that it's my only pop culture podcast not presented by professional comedians, and I think I'll miss that. While comedians aren't bad, I liked just having regular people talk about stuff, without trying to constantly be funny or what not, or with the undercurrent of trying to sell me on their latest TV show or CD or standup.

So, any general pop culture podcasts y'all can recommend?

Couple recommendations:

NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour - Like the above but somewhat better IMHO.

Seconding this. It's filled the void in my life that the death of Extra Hot Great left, and it's just plain fun.

Is there anything else out there like Stuff You Missed in History Class? I tried Stuff You Should Know but I can't handle the boring, droning hosts. I just blazed through Stuff You Missed after getting over my aversion to short-format podcasts, so, outside of History of the World in 100 Objects, if it's short I probably haven't heard of it. I also wouldn't mind a longer format show like In Our Time, but I've finished that recently as well and I listened to all of Hardcore History ages ago.

Gosh, I could have written above. Sums everything up for me perfectly. I was even about to suggest History of the World in 100 Objects.

One thing I can recommend that's not exactly history related, but is short and interesting, is 99% Invisible. It touches on some recent history but it's about design. Some recent examples: A Bucky dome, Kowloon Walled City, pneumatic tube systems in Paris, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and when someone was killed over a dental patent. But I'm still 200 episodes behind in Stuff You Missed, 300 episodes in Stuff You Should Know, and 75 episodes behind in 100 Objects, so I have a while before I need to worry about finding new history stuff. :)

Check out The Moth, sounds exactly like what you're looking for: http://feeds.themoth.org/themothpodcast

My own request: Are there any podcasts about porn? Not X-rated podcasts, but interviews, news about the sex industry, etc. I found "The Morning After" but that shut down last year. And googling for "porn podcast" doesn't return much useful.

Beyond pod is amazing and you should just pick an app and pay for it. Here's how I think about it. Don't buy a cup of coffee, or make lunch for a day and you'll never have to deal with the headache of downloading podcasts daily. Automate as much of your life as you can because you have other things to do. Like push play and listen to podcasts!

It's like 6 bucks to make you happy for months on end. (years for me). The return on investment is huge.
Seconded. Think about your priorities here; will the lost features and inconvenience of ads, over the years you use an Android phone, add up to more or less than the inconvenience of not getting a single drink from Starbucks, or a single McDonalds meal? BeyondPod is definitely worth it.

I'm too lazy to make a real thread, and I don't know if it would be even popular enough to bother with, but rapper and actor Ice-T has his own podcast.

http://www.icetfinallevel.com/

Along with his mentally challenged co-host, Mick Benzo, Ice gives you the low down on his behind the scenes work on SVU, his upcoming Body Count album, philosophy, movies he's seen, and even takes calls. It's unintentionally hilarious, compounded by the fact that his co-host doesn't have a very firm grasp of the English language. He takes it pretty lightly, though, on the third episode, he plays a clip where Paul F. Tompkins is pranked by another Ice-T impersonator.

This podcast is sublime and amazing, and I thank you for introducing it to me.

We have podcasts that do in depth on every episode of a TV series, like Go Bayside! and The X-Files Files. And we have ones like Star Wars Minute. Is there anything like that for video games?

I had this idea for a Doomcast that goes over one stock level each episode, discussing the design, difficulty, setpieces, speedrunning, and multiplayer. I'm not sure if I'm the one to do that, but while I ponder that, is there anything remotely like this in existence, for any game?

If you like The Bugle then you'll probably like Answer Me This.

Also others to consider: Pop Culture Happy Hour, an NPR podcast, and Extra Hot Great, a wonderful podcast from the people who made Television Without Pity.
