OK So I do a few podcasts. Here is their info. I hope you enjoy them! I don't know if anybody outside of our friends likes this show, but we enjoy the gently caress out of recording it and would probably continue to record even if nobody listened. Both Crosstawk and Hardcore Nerdography are on a shared RSS feed for all of Crosstawk's content. We're keeping it that way for now since the shows have a fairly shared audience of our friends and various followers. If the shows get more popular we'll spin the off.

Not out of any audio quality concerns so much as they're difficult to make work if you ever find yourself in a multi-microphone setting. You tend to need fancier recording software to permit recording from multiple USB sources, but I still just edit everything in Audacity because it's the only one I can logically comprehend. The true voice professionals will recommend a dynamic ribbon microphone (voice actors like Steve Blum and Jennifer Hale use these) or possibly a phantom-powered condenser one (what radio guys like Howard Stern use), but as someone whose knowledge of audio engineering is minimal and is too drat lazy to construct a makeshift recording booth environment, those are more hassle than they're worth. They tend to literally pick up the sounds of your AC or refrigerator running, or even fabric on the clothes you're wearing. Still, if you can set up the whole carpet/foam isolated sound booth (or even the small ones that just house the mic) AND have enough voice discipline or editing time to remove all the mouth/lip noises those mics will pick up, those would be the way to go. No, I'm just going to recommend you get a Shure SM57 (aka "the microphones whoever the President of the United States is uses") or SM58 (generally used by singers). These are dynamic microphones that each seem like they've been price-fixed around $100 forever, and they're unidirectional so they're less liable to pick up ambient sound. They're meant more for live stage use than podcasting, so I imagine most people's response to my recommendation would be "those are okay, I guess." AWO's not exactly the high watermark of audio quality between the low bitrate/sampling and the fact that I tend to just run things through Levelator and call it a day, but I'm currently using an SM58S after having used an SM57 and can't really tell the difference between the two; I only switched to give the 57 to a cohost. A 58S is exactly the same as a 58 only it has an on/off switch, though as I found out the hard way using it during a recording tends to introduce a click that simply clicking Mute would not. You're probably not going to come off as having that rumbling, booming voice of God sound with the SM57 or SM58, but they are mics which are mid-range price-wise that "just work." I recommend getting a Zoom H4n, hook a mixer (with as many mics as you like plugged into it) up to it using XLR cables. Then use the Zoom as a USB soundcard. It's cheap, plus the Zoom is a GREAT portable microphone in its own right.

This is the advice I give whenever the question arises: If you absolutely don't have the money to get an interface and an XLR microphone, the best USB mics (in my opinion) are the Samson Meteor and the Blue Yeti. Both have headphone jacks for self monitoring, which is important for getting good mic technique. You will also want to invest in a stand that will get the mic close to your mouth, and a pop filter (since these are condenser mics). XLR mics are really a good way to go, especially if you're willing to lay down some money for an interface like the M-Audio Fast Track Pro. You can usually find them on Craigslist for about half of their list price. Any XLR mic wil work on any interface or mixer, since most come with phantom power. As long as you take good care of it, you can always count on it working. Someone else has also mentioned the benefits of XLR re: having more than one person in a room. It's a nice luxury, but if you're primarily going to be working via Skype, you might be able to put it off and stick with USB. For XLR microphones, I currently use the MXL 990, which is very reasonably priced, sounds great for speaking voices, and comes with a shock mount. I'm putting my pennies away for a Heil PR40, because that's just about the best drat dynamic microphone you can get.

It took us forever, but Episode 101 of the Anime World Order podcast is out! Joining us this time around is Patrick Macias, who in addition to being editor-in-chief of Crunchyroll News and Otaku USA Magazine is also an author, TV/Internet video personality, admirer of bad fashion, and all-around paranoiac who's a menace to our society. The topic? Harmagedon. In my opinion, one stunning--and stunningly BAD--movie...that happens to also be an all-time favorite of 50% of those appearing on this podcast, Patrick included! Audio quality's a dip from usual due to having a fourth person on, but it should be fine to listen to.

I'm one of the other guys in Love Perth Hate Perth. We just got done recording episode 006 of our podcat. I think the past couple of episodes we have gotten over our nerves and become a bit more natural. It is basically 4 goons talking about bizarre Australian and Perth news. An Australian UYD with constant loud laughing at each others jokes. While the theme is supposed to be about the wonderful/Horrible city of Perth the topics generally nosedive into the sexually and mentally deranged universal areas of our society. Would love some goons feedback. This week has been the first week we have gotten feedback from random listeners. It is a great feeling knowing that there are random people out there who are listening to you and your idiot friends talk poo poo and are engaged enough to email in. Hey all, I do a few podcasts, and I'll go ahead and just link all of them, but the one that I'm looking for feedback on is my most recent project, Re:Fresh, which can also be heard streaming on GhettoRadio.us. Why Does It Exist? iTunes RSS I started WDIE as a blog last year. My goal was to watch and review movies that were below the radar of bad/cult/psychotronic movies. Mickey Rourke movies from the late 90's, National Lampoon comedies, straight-to-DVD Val Kilmer movies and bigger-budgeted theatrical movies that never really made any ripple at the time. It was mostly born out of my fascination with movies I could hardly find any info about; while grindhouse movies have their own cult audience, things that fall somewhere out of that jurisdiction do not. Out of that grew the podcast. I invited my friend Dan along and we watch a movie every week and discuss it. This isn't strictly a bad movies podcast; we go in as blind as possible and aren't necessarily looking to rip the movie apart (but it tends to happen nonetheless). Every week we feature a different song by a Montreal musician or band and we have some special guests lined up in the new year from the Montreal entertainment scene (comedians, actors, musicians, etc.). The sound quality on the first 2 - 3 episodes is a little rough without necessarily being muddy but the last couple are much clearer (I'd start with those if I were you) and I've already planned to purchase some better microphones in the next couple of weeks.

The Ring Crew Show Genre: Comedy/Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH) Release Schedule: Every Thursday The Ring Crew Show is a weekly wrestling podcast where we talk about news about the industry, indie news, we see live events for our Ring Crew Road Trips, we also write and preform sketches, parodies and all kinds of stuff. We've been going for 2 years now and have 123 episodes. We do interviews with wrestlers and people in the business, and Maffew from Botchamania is a frequent guest as well. Every week we review Pay-Per-Views, DVDs, games and of course all of the big wrestling shows from the previous week. The Basement Vagrants Genre: Movies/Video Games/Pop Culture Release Schedule: Twice a month The Basement Vagrants Podcast is my personal show that I started a few months ago. It's got 13 episodes and is becoming kind of a companion to the Ring Crew Show, and may turn into an offshoot of that where the guys can take a break from wrestling and talk about whatever else interests them. On the podcast we typically talk about movies, trailers and news, as well as video games and whatever else we want. Oh and there are occasional articles too.

Anime World Order Show # 102a – Subatomic Trivia Skirmish 9001 Okay, so we poo poo the bed even more so than usual between not releasing an episode in like two months and then releasing THIS. The audio quality is...sub-optimal because two of us recorded in the same room and two others joined in over Skype. What was originally supposed to be just us answering emails was actually an elaborate surprise anime trivia "contest" in which there could be no winners. In the end, we could only answer some of it, but "some" is probably still an accomplishment with questions like these. This spiraled out of control such that this podcast is just the first half of the incident. Part Two will be released shortly. Our guest throughout this is Erin Finnegan, a podcaster in her own right whom we conscripted into joining us in writing for Otaku USA.
