I guess at the end of the day, you'd just need to know the basic premise behind how the Grail War works. You'd be missing a whole lot of continuity nods, though.

I believe they came up with some kind of Nitro+ vs. Type Moon Calender a couple of years back, actually.

As for the porn yeah there's nothing really to say about that. Later versions of the visual novel had it removed but sex sells. Later on in the book it's used in a really hosed up way that fits in a lot better but that first excuse was pretty cringe-inducing yes. The anime series was just really bad. vv

Hmm... looks interesting but I really disliked the first anime adaption. I guess I liked the character design better in KnK too. But it's cool UFO table is doing this one so I'll stay along for the show.

Factor_VIII posted:Not necessarily. There haven't been that many adaptations that have been bad in my opinion. KnK is generally seen as being very good. Personally I thought the original F/SN anime was OK but nothing special and enjoyed the UBW movie. The Tsukihime anime is widely seen as being a bad adaptation and I must say I found it to be slow, disjointed and confusing. Let's not mince words - the Tsukihime anime is a complete and utter disaster as far as adaptations are concerned. F/SN's anime was pretty medicore, like you said. UBW was a disjointed mess. A pretty mess, to be sure, but still a mess. (Which is what happens when you squeeze a ten-hour storyline into less than two hours.) KnK is literally the only Type-Moon adaptation thus far that could be considered as being good, from start to finish. Luckily, with Carnival Phantasm (technically an adaptation of Take Moon) and now F/Zero on the way, this looks to be changing soon. Also, in regards to the possibility of a HF anime - gently caress's sake, Type-Moon. Throw us Tsukihime diehards a bone here!

The worst part about an HF adaption is that we won't get to see Sparks Liner High animated.

Honestly, the worst thing about a possible HF adaptation is that it'll likely be censored to hell and back unless ufotable does it. DEEN has a habit of removing any mention of sex in their versions (hello, mana dragon biting Shirou's arm off!) which isn't going to mesh nicely with a route where the villain's main weapon is an army of carnivorous, orifice-invading dicks that eat you alive from the inside and where the villain's son rapes his sister repeatedly just for shits and giggles. I don't think I can possibly emphasize how hosed up HF is, especially compared to Fate and UBW. The closest they came to horror was light-grade poo poo like Kotomine's basement full of charred corpses from Fate and the mutated Grail from UBW, but HF goes straight into David Cronenberg poo poo pretty fast, which would be jarring as hell if the route weren't really well-written. I'm not saying all of this should be shown graphically, but scrubbing away any mention of it like DEEN seems to be wont to do (and the Realta Nua version did) is gonna make the route really incomprehensible really quick. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure Type-MOON is intelligent enough not to use DEEN for this, especially if Fate/zero does as well as it should.

Being a huge type-moon geek, am incredibly pumped for this. Fate/Zero basically takes all of Fate/Stay Night's bullshit school drama, shoehorned sex scenes, and main character and gets rid of them while turning the awesome up 100%. You can probably get into this with just having seen the awful DEEN anime, but you will be spoiled on some stuff from the later routes. I do recommend the VN, which is quite good outside of the occasional awful sex scene you have to fast forward through. Seorin did an awesome LP of it some time ago as well.

FSN wouldn't work as well without those (er, barring the shoehorned sex obviously) though, the whole point is that it's not a proper grail war. Also I personally think it really is better for people to just play the game themselves (with the voice patch and latest RN patch, the latter of which Seorin didn't have) than to just read the LP.

quote:And by choosing to kill Sakura Shirou has betrayed his ideal, since his aim is save everyone and Sakura is an innocent as she hasn't consciously killed anyone. Wrong. Kotomine even confirms in the route that the shadow is still actually Sakura and she's making the conscious decision to kill people.

Speaking of, I keep forgetting that some company said they were actually going to localize Fate/Extra. Gonna be a good year. And does anybody know if Fate/Strange Fake was ever translated anywhere? Sounds like it's just supposed to be a prologue and closer to a fanfic than canon, but it's written by the guy who wrote Baccano/Durarara and the descriptions of it sound totally awesome.

You should be able to find torrents of the game and the voice files relatively easily. Once you've done that, get 1. http://mirrormoon.org/projects/fate_stay_night The translation patch 2. http://rnpatch.blogspot.com/ The Realta Nua patch. Just follow the patch instructions and mount the correct CD files when needed, it's a pretty easy install job.

Don't know where you could find the game these days (IIRC legit copies have grown both rare and expensive), but if you have a copy you should just be able to run the English patch installer from Mirror Moon and it should install with no issues. You may have to change your system locale to Japanese, I forget if they fixed it so you could skip that or not. I forget where the latest RN content patch is at these days, though, I haven't checked on these things for a year or two. It's worth tracking down though. I think they might also require a copy of the RN PS2 disc to install, too, I forget.
