Man, what are you doing without 10 Luck in the casino.

Oh I got a face card? DOUBLE DOWN.

Bam.

Oh, I got a card under 10? Hit me till I get over the dealer's minimum draw req.

BAM.

Please and Thank you. :homebrew:

My second character had 9 Luck, 9 charisma (both boosted to 10's at Dr Usanagis') and a mix of 4's and 5's. It was probably my favourite build as the first thing I did was skip everything and leg it to Vegas, played nothing but blackjack at the four Casinos (including the wrangler.) I just always doubled down and I won double pots about 4 times out of 5. It was crazy how easy the game became afterwards too just from winning all that money at the beginning and with the high charisma with couple of followers killing everything around you while you do jack poo poo.

After being really disappointed by Fallout 4, I'd like to go back and try New Vegas again.

Is there any up to date source for what mods you should use to have the best experience in 2018?

I have the game on Steam, does this make the mods more difficult?

Unlike Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, you just need Yukichigai's Unofficial Patch and maybe the jsawyer mod (get the yup compability patch too if you get it), and the respective script extensions that are listed in the installation instructions. Also the 4gb patch since you have the steam version.

Nevada Project is alright, but I've always preferred the patched up vanilla experience.

Great, does it matter what order you install these in?

ALL Offical DLC - including Courier's stash;
New Vegas Script Extender;
JIP LN NVSE Plugin;
The Mod Configuration Menu;
Yukichigai Unofficial Patch
Unofficial Patch Plus
Jsawyer ultimate edition mod

"JSawyer Ultimate should be low down in your load order, after YUP and UP+, and after YUP's NPC fixes"

Took it from this: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61592

Neither of the stories in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 make sense at all. I think 75% of Fallout 3's crap writing could have been redeemed by making it take place around Fallout 1's time and replacing the Brotherhood with a brand new faction. It would fix the lamplight town, why everything still looks like poo poo, why the Enclave haven't done anything in 200 years. Heck, it would of made more sense to play your Dad in Fallout 3 since the entire game is based on his life and you are just a passive participant in the background and were not meant to be a part of it. That would take a tiny bit of creativity on Bethesda's part though, so no go on that end. Likewise, Fallout 4 should have been about playing your son. Ughhh so much incompetence.

Beat the game again, this time doing all of the DLC and going for a NCR ending.

Game is janky as gently caress but, having played games since the late 80's, New Vegas is the best game I've ever played.

I loved 3 because I like exploration more than I like talking to people, and 3 has more to explore than New Vegas. Is there any way to get it running stably on Windows 10?

Yep. Install the game, run it and then quit back to the desktop. If the game doesn't run, install Games for Windows Live (you don't have to launch it) then download https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/1086 the Games for Windows Live remover.

After that, the game should run. If you want bugfixes, the unofficial patch has you covered: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19122/

Thread poll:

If there was one thing you could change about Fallout: New Vegas (other than engine improvements or bugfixes), what would it be?

Definitely the Legion content and more of Arizona.

I was thinking also making Freeside and West New Vegas more like New Reno from Fallout 2, but there are mods that do that well.

For real. I really wish they used that for the Fallout 2 cover art.
