A plastic bin will also ward off annoying little weevils and stuff, too, though it could make things taste a bit plasticky. Last time I had a problem with the bastards, I discovered them when I was trying to make some bread and had literally zero money, and we were on the edge of actually going hungry. I put the flour through a fine sieve and used it anyway. Extra protein.  (oh god don't follow my example unless you absolutely have to, which is highly unlikely)
