So I'm completely fed up with consumer grade wifi router devices in general, everytime I buy a new one it seems to work okay for 6-12 months before requiring regular reboots to keep things going.

What do fellow goons use for high grade at home wifi stuff, I'm knowledgeable about networks and wireless in general but I don't know which of the 1000s of pieces of consumer junk on the market is worth my dollars.

tl;dr What wifi router should I buy???

Just got an offer from a new ISP in my region to upgrade to 1gbps symmetrical fiber to the house for $59.99.

Blows my cable internet out of the water, I can't wait to switch over ASAP.

I have no idea what thread this question belongs in but technically it is for a home network...

Soon, my workplace will only let me use my work-provided laptop to connect to their network, including everything that uses MS authentication (Teams/Outlook/etc). Instead of the comfy desktopping I've been doing so far, and I don't have a dock, only a crappy HDMI cable they provided.

I cannot RDP to my work laptop from the desktop.
However, it looks like casting and wireless connection can be OK.

Doing some google around, I could potentially cast my work laptop to my desktop, and that would even let me control it with my mouse?

My desktop states it isn't 'Miracast-capable'. Would buying a dongle for this solve the problem?
I own a chromecast - can I give this a testrun by sticking my chromecast into my PC and seeing if that works? No, apparently Miracast is a competing standard to chromecast.

Sounds like you need to just get a proper docking station for your work laptop.

Change your dns server to something not controlled by your isp like 8.8.8.8

Have you tried doing a factory reset on your router yet? Smells like router/DHCP bullshit going on.

When you say Powerline, do you mean some kind of ethernet to powerline network adapter setup? That would be a likely source of issues right there, powerline networking can be wonky.

The errors you're seeing on your modem are on the RF/IF side of things, it lost the downlink acquisition from the remote end modem for at least a moment. These types of errors can occur rarely due to maintenance or line conditions but if they are occurring constantly, I would be worried about your RF side. Sounds like that isn't an issue though if you're getting 250mbps wirelessly to your phone.

Connect your PC directly to your modem or your router without the powerline networking in line and try that.

Can you connect it directly at least just for testing purposes?

Most Ethernet cables can go up to 300ft no problem.

Have you tried a different wifi device on your desktop maybe? Use a plugin USB wifi adapter and see if it's better?

Why are you using a VPN and what VPN application or service is it?

Do you really have a pressing need to use a VPN on your personal PC?

Really unless you're accessing the internet from some country where porn is blocked or something I can't think of a good reason to use a VPN at home except for work poo poo.

Easy way to clear your airspace is to use a modified microwave to blast your neighbors wifi antennas until they overheat and melt, then operate in all bands unfettered by other people.

Just because all the pairs are electrically sound doesn't mean it's going to work with the insane modulation rates that 1000 requires.

Sure sounds like a bad cable friend, I'd maybe try using two different devices on each end that you haven't tried before to make sure the issue persists with new equipment. Use the old cable to pull a new one through.

Or use a BERT tester like a Viavi 6000 to certify it up to 1000m using simulated traffic.

If you're really concerned about privacy then don't use a computer/the internet.
