There's a cool (and fairly long) writeup of the Best Show in the most recent issue of Spin: http://www.spin.com/articles/why-tom-scharpling-and-jon-wurster-wfmus-best-show-are-punk-genuises

In case anybody hasn't seen it, Tom directed an Aimee Mann video last year that's relevant to this week's Best Show Gems, in which Jon reenacts the Voices Carry video as "the guy who took [her] to the opera." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA1cX-wgMdM

I know it's not really the best way to support the show, but if you're kinda broke and haven't listened to the "Best of Scharpling and Wurster" CDs yet, they're all up on Spotify now. Some of the best stuff they've ever done.. the Mother 13 on Everest segment is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard.

It was Underdog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh5B8s78aVc I remember because I looked it up afterwards... it's a good tune.

Not too surprised that Tom took a night off, it seems like he was getting really worn out. I agree that Gary the Squirrel is getting to be really tedious lately... I never listen live so lately I'm just skipping ahead to the point where I hear Tom speaking in a regular voice again. The audio collage is pretty epic though, and one of the best thing he's done in a while.

The link appears to be dead... I'm intrigued though. You have a reup?

The actual video for the song Billy Joel plays in that video is also pretty peak off-the-rails style Billy Joel absurdity as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhJg1finpyU Although I grew up on LI and I like Billy Joel more than I'd really like to admit...

Tributes are rolling in: http://www.nashvillescene.com/nashv...ent?oid=3992563 http://www.theawl.com/2013/12/goodbye-to-the-best-show-on-wfmu I'm gonna miss this show. Any wild speculation on what Tom's gonna be up to next? I'm imagining he starts a subscription show similar to Best Show but not quite the same thing. Maybe a... podcast?

Evan Funk Davies linked to this one and it's been working semi-ok for me (had to reload it once a moment ago): http://tunein.com/radio/WFMU-911-s28808/

That Ballad of El Goodo made me feel extremely emotional.

All of those Hardwick clips in the new collage? Best Show 2014 is definitely gonna be on the Nerdist Network.

He's also doing some podcast rounds. I'm listening to him on Todd Barry's podcast right now: http://www.feralaudio.com/74-tom-scharpling/ He talks about the show a bunch, and what he expects the format for the new show to be like (pretty much the same thing, done independently, also trying to bring it out to live shows more often, if possible). He's also been on the Sidestreets podcast, which I've never heard of: http://sidestreetspodcast.tumblr.com/post/104073222942/episode-041-the-chump-steamroller-with-tom and was apparently on Keith and the Girl today as well.

Immediately after the "I'm not sure that clip convinced me" question he asks, "How did FMU become an independent station, wasn't its license originally held by a college?"

NESguerilla posted:Did Johnny Ryan do the cover? It looks like his stuff. I'm pretty sure it was Neil Numberman. I met him at the Brooklyn Best Show listening party a few years ago and he's a cool dude.
