Is it possible that is a Spike is a deep-cover Jon Wurster character?

It still amazes me that Nardwuar is a real guy rather than a Wurster character.

There are pictures of them together, and I'm still not 100% convinced they are aren't photoshopped .

Does the recent "Madman,Man and Man" Gem have a follow up? It kind of ends on an odd note for a Wurster call.

In case anybody hasn't seen it, Tom directed an Aimee Mann video last year that's relevant to this week's Best Show Gems, in which Jon reenacts the Voices Carry video as "the guy who took [her] to the opera." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA1cX-wgMdM

Also look for Ted Leo, as one of the band members, wearing a hilarious wig.

Apparently next week is going to be a pre-taped call in show (taped tonight Feb 21). So from Mr. Show sketch to reality.

In the recent episode, I think the event of a caller calling in asking about "Salo", Mike thinking he said "Shiloh" but going on to describe "Shoah" is Ap Mike in a nutshell.

There is an MP3 link with the order that doesn't work that taunts you (I think it gets mentioned somewhere in the release that they aren't doing it).

I wonder if some of the cds will be identical the ones they put out before. I image rock rot and rule has to be in there. It looks like they are reusing some of the previous cds art for some of the cds.

I am, been looking forward to it since it was announced. Weird that Chicago was the one that took forever comparatively to sell out.

Apparently my tracking number updated sometime today saying it shipped over the weekend. Even though I live only a few hours from Chicago (where it shipped from), it seems to be visiting every neighboring state first (predicted delivery date Friday). Oh well. I wonder if demand was a bit higher than they expected given what numero group has been saying.

Anyways, the street date is in May I think, so it could be worse.

There are a couple of the older CDs on spotify etc as well. Just search for Scharpling & Wurster.

I do realize more and more that I like the call-in stuff just as much as the preplanned bits. Of course when the callers are boring, the show becomes drat near unlistenable. When they are bad, Tom usually makes it fun.

You miss out on like 95% of the humor in the Wurster calls until you've been listening for a while and can pick out all the callbacks and meta-jokes.

One prime example that comes to mind recently, was the ever increasing the character can't think of the name of an abba tune whose lyrics become more and more misogynistic with each call week after week. I don't think it would be as funny if you are jumping in randomly.

I really have to go back some time and re-listen to my first few shows (the first episode I ever heard was the Gathering of the Juggalos) because I'm pretty sure I didn't realize until the fourth one that the JW calls were A) fake and B) all the same guy.

A very memorable moment with my dad was when during a road trip, I played the Bruce Springsteen book bit without introducing it. He had no knowledge of the best show besides it being a radio program [We might have listened to the "list of ranking everything" before hand, I don't remember]. He wasn't paying that much attention, but I think it took to the wearable motorcycle t-shirt to realize it was fake. I was astonished that it took him that long.

I tracked down the very first Philly Boy Roy call a while ago out of curiosity. He actually interacted with callers ala Rock Rot & Rule and basically everybody seemed to believe he was an actual person.

What do you guys think are good clips for getting new people into the show? Gathering of the Juggalos is a great one. I think Tom's recap of Beatlefest did it for me.

I think "Sucks" might be good as a barometer if the show ['s fake calls] is for them or not.
