Any Canadian goons looking to trade for some US beers? Would love to get my hands on Armand & Tommy (Drie Fonteinen), Fou Foune, Saint Lamvinus, and any of the Lou Pepes. I know they're a bit easier to get up north.

FreelanceSocialist posted:I just trade $4$ (dollar-for-dollar) unless it is something very difficult to get or something I have cellared purposefully and properly for a while - something with additional intrinsic value. With those scenarios, my trade partner and I reach an agreement ahead of time. I can get things like Allagash brewery-only sours really easily, so even though those are rare as far as the rest of the planet is concerned, they are just $4$ to me. I wish more people had this attitude with trading nowadays. It seems like every person is hyping up their local releases, giving beers 5/5 for trade purposes on review sites, and then holding them ransom for only the rarest beers. The people who get really sought after beers from me are the people who just want to try new beer and don't care about how rare it is. I've sent Dark Lords, Hunahpu, BA Hunahpu, BB Batch 9000, Black Note, JP Grand Reserves, BCBS Variants, Black Tuesday, and tons of other sought after beers without expecting anything specific in return.

Otherwise I don't really care about rarity and just stick to $4$ Fantasia is amazing and I wish I had a bottle of it. DDG, on the other hand, I could live without. funkybottoms posted:yeah, obviously you don't want to trade year-round shelf beers for something you got two bottles of from a beer release that you waited six hours in line for, but there is way too much of an emphasis on "winning" trades with some people. i've got a semi-regular trading partnership with five or six goons and it's really fantastic- one us sends a message like, "hey, X is coming out, you interested?" you see what else is kicking around, maybe establish a dollar amount, and bam, trade. if you trade with someone long enough, you don't even need to be that formal, you just send a box with a heads-up knowing that you'll get something sweet in return. These are the best trading relationships. It's not that I don't want to send somebody something awesome in return, it's the fact that I've traded with the same people in the past multiple times and it seemed like we had to barter for days every time until a trade was agreed to.

If you can pry it from somebody's cold dead hands, by all means get this beer. I had it again over the weekend and it was phenomenal. Very fruit forward with a nice tartness. I think it will be even better when it carbs up a little more and the fruit fades a bit to bring that tartness out some more.

The only shipping that is a huge money sink is packages to the west coast (from the Great Lakes) - it can get up to $25+ for a 12 bottle shipper. Shipping anywhere else is usually $10-$15.

Very Sour Blackberry is phenomenal and I'm really fortunate to have a bottle of it. I helped a buddy land one last week IP and this is what he traded for all of 1 bottle of Very Sour Blackberry: 750 ml growler of Hill Farmstead Double Citra 750 ml growler of Hill Farmstead Everett 2012 500 ml bottle of Hill Farmstead Birth of Tragedy

He can walk into a dozen local bars and drink most Hill Farmstead beers on tap. $4$ is dumb anyways. If somebody has a problem with me trading a Sour Reserve, a 750 ml "Gueuze" with a smaller bottle count that was $25 for their Duck Duck Gooze, a 750 ml "Gueuze" with a larger bottle count because they paid $40 for it, I would tell them to go gently caress themselves.

I prefer Hunahpu over Abraxas but I could easily see somebody liking Abraxas more - one beer is a thicker, more melded stout, another is more in your face with the spices. I really enjoy both, and it certainly helps that Abraxas is distributed.

Some veteran beer nerds will probably hate on me for posting this, but don't blame me for trying. Do we happen to have any goons from the following areas who are looking into getting into trading? Santa Cruz, CA (Sante Adairius) Decorah, IA (Toppling Goliath) Philly, PA (Tired Hands - would ideally be looking for somebody who goes to their bottle releases. Somebody who makes it to Bullfrog is a plus) Burlington, VT (Hill Farmstead, Lawsons, Alchemist) I'd love to work out a trading partnership - I live in Michigan and have access to a ton of brewery only releases from Kuhnhenn, Dark Horse, Founders, Bells, Shorts, Jolly Pumpkin, Odd Side, Grand Rapids Brewing Company, and many others. I've traded with countless goons and they can attest to quality of boxes I send. I'm also an El Catador member so I have access to most beers released by Cigar CIty.

He owed me a box for like 6 months and when he finally mailed it, it was missing some things we had agreed on him sending me. He ended up including some pretty decent local bottles, so I didn't make a fuss about it. This was 3 or so years ago.
