So does Google Books kind of suck and not deal with footnotes well/at all? Because that is my current experience. I bought the new Terry Pratchett, and as fans know, footnotes are like half the experience. e: Well I'm convinced the GB app is crap but I think I'm a big fan of the service. Just went on to the website, I didn't even realize that it would let me download it as an epub that I was then able to load onto my Sony Reader. Pretty sweet. However, I'm getting tired of the fact that GV doesn't integrate with my phone deeply enough to show notifications on my lock screen and poo poo. Not actually answering your question directly, but I use WidgetLocker and the Google Voice widget to do exactly that - show GV texts and missed calls on my lock screen. You can even flip through them.

Opera Mobile is a full browser that doesn't rely on Opera's servers. Ahhh, I see. Opera Mobile has an option for "Opera Turbo," which I guess is the only option in Opera Mini. rotaryfun posted:How is it as a wallpaper? I'm trying out ADW EX - did they remove the ability to swipe sideways to different catalogs from regular ADW? As far as I can tell, the only way to choose a different one is by Menu -> Choose Group. (Also, what the hell - groups or catalogs, which is it?)

AlexMoron posted:Yeah. It's the most annoying poo poo ever and the ONLY thing that bothers me about the EX version over the older one. You have to manually add each and every app you want in that group as you get it. I really wish they'd just kept that as it was in the non-EX version and not hosed it up. What the hell. I love how much snappier EX is, but not being able to categorize my apps and then actually easily navigate those categories is a dealbreaker.

I'd really like to use Emit, but I've never gotten it to work. Running it on a MacBook Pro with 10.7.2, and neither my Touchpad or my Atrix (both on CM7) will stream video. It just fails and says "Something went wrong!"

After that I've no problems connecting to my MBA. Huh, I never thought about that. I've got samba installed, how did you go about stripping out Lion's smb stuff?

If you're using a phone, you can go into the preferences and choose to also receive texts with the Messaging app. It basically means you get to bypass 90% of GV's weaknesses. You can always switch back to the app if you want/have to send something by wifi, but the cellular forwarding thing - whatever it is, however it works - just seems to work better.

No, contacts aren't matched - which is stupid, since the whole thing is managed by Google and it should know better. If you text the "magic" number it provides you with, though, doesn't it come up as being sent from your GV number? I switch back and forth and haven't heard reports of weirdness from people. It's still not ideal, I'll admit, but sending SMS messages is so much more reliable than using the official app.

One Google account has all this crazy stuff, email, messaging, social networking, phone/texts, printing, but it's all different platforms that at best acknowledge each other's existences. Why they don't want these platforms under one roof I don't know, but that leaked G+ blog post from a while back made it sound like they just suck at leveraging platforms.

I'm not sure I've seen it mentioned in the thread before, but I want to heavily recommend Skifta as a DLNA/UPnP streaming app. I was looking for something that would let me stream video from one android device to another (first world problems) and found this. The interface is good if a bit ugly, but it has a great Just Works™ factor. It also has a Mac and PC client, and with basically no configuration or worry I've got media streaming from phone to tablet, tablet to phone, and Mac to everything. It's really nice!

Stevie Lee posted:The Spotify app has been poo poo since an update a couple months ago. If you add a song to a playlist (including starring a song), the app will crash about 95% of the time. If you are just listening to playlists you've already made, or playing songs through the search function, the app will barely ever crash. I'm guessing this is her problem. I'm using an Evo 3D, but I think this problem affects all Android devices. The biggest way Spotify pisses me off is that like 80% of the time it insists that I'm offline. NO I'M NOT. Sometimes I can log out and back in and that works, sometimes I have to reinstall the goddamned thing.
