I loving love me some Davis' In a Silent Way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCnUpl6B46M Does anyone know anything else like it? Great to finally see a jazz megathread, jazz is the poo poo. DOOP posted:Free Jazz needs some John Zorn links. Goddamn, his music is...interesting, to say the least I've only ever heard Filmworks XIV, what more of his stuff would you recommend? BeigeJacket posted:I like his Masada work best, here's the first part of a track; with the awesome Marc Ribot on guitar. Oh sweet, Marc Ribot's played with Tom Waits on a bunch of albums, too! I love how everyone seems to have played with everyone else in jazz. Definitely gonna check out the Soil and Pimp guys. Also, vibes are excellent. Bags Jackson!

BeigeJacket posted:Hey Pas2, where's good place to start with Charlie Mingus? Really dug that tune you posted earlier. I'm no expert but I rather enjoy Mingus Ah Um and Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (for the name if nothing else). Thanks for all the Zorn recs, by the way!

Today I went into a charity shop on a whim and came out with these. Hot dang. Does anyone have any jazz blogs, which are preferably updated not extremely frequently? I subscribe to holyfuckingshit40000 and I tend to find its updating agreeable. e: x0nix, I've finally gotten round to listening to Angel Song and I effing love it, thanks.

I've just discovered Mythologies by Patricia Barber via the #jazz hashtag on diaspora (like an open source Facebook combined with Twitter, it's pretty cool). It's based on Ovid's Metamorphoses and it rules. Spotify Nuclear Spoon fucked around with this message at 13:26 on Feb 22, 2012 |

Frosted Flake posted:The other thing about Ken Burns that bothered me what that he saw Jazz as completely American. I think he touched on French Jazz, only in the context of the French playing American songs while they were occupied. Did he even mention Django Reinhardt? Some would argue that OP is merely a blues player, though I love him all the same. In fact, Tristeza on Piano may well have been the album that got me into jazz. http://www.estivaljazz.ch So I'm thinking of going to this (free!) festival in Lugano, Switzerland in July, but I can't find a lineup. Anyone know when they tend to announce it?
