It's an autoblog. All it does is scrape youtube for specific keywords and posts the video and comments on the site. I set it up the day before the 2010 Superbowl and haven't touched it since. It's pretty rough and it ranks for some real specific keywords, but it's not on the first page for "super bowl commercials" or anything.

I'm sure if I had any original content on there I could do better but I just haven't put any work into it in the last 2 years. Right now it just makes me a quick hundred or two during the super bowl and week after then lays dormant the rest of the year.

What kinda traffic do you get around the super bowl?

So I tried my hand at affiliate / adsense / amazon marketing last year, blew about $100, never really gave it 100% of my attention and eventually killed the venture. However, the bug has gotten to me again.

The best domain I have is https://www.sprainrelief.com any suggestions for how best to monetize it?

I have a very noob question and I hope this is the right place for it. I've been setting my first blog up all day today (http://www.gameswecrave.net/) -- The site is hosted from my main domain (http://www.deadendcrew.net) -- The problem I'm running into is that anytime I click a link, the path changes in the address bar to reflect the full path of the site.

I know this is simple to fix, but I'm really new at this and could use the tip!

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure, but if it's a wordpress site, check the "Site Address" setting under General settings. Change it to the URL you want to show.

Sorry I meant addon domains in Cpanel. It sounds like you fixed it though.

I may as well spam a link to my sites here.

The main money maker which I bought for $220 (!) is Panasonic Pencil Sharpeners. Got a few more links out which improved the traffic greatly. Now it makes ~$80 per month from adsense and maybe $20-40 from amazon. A good candidate for selling for a large profit maybe?

Others I bought from the same guy which aren't so good but still at least pay for themselves..

So has anyone used pinterest yet as a traffic driver?
I'm not exactly in the norm as my blog is quite new and not intended to make money (yet!) but I've found a great deal of my traffic comes from there. Interested to hear if anyone else has had any experience.
Is it kosher to try to add my blog to the main post even though it's not quite a 'blog for bucks'? (google adsense shows a good old $1.15 after about 6 weeks)

I also get a great deal of traffic from Pinterest. My posts about recipes or any other "do it yourself" project seem to get the most pins. It's been great for backlinks since the photo that is pinned becomes a link back to your post, and then there's another link with your URL underneath it.

For you food bloggers who can take decent photos, https://www.foodgawker.com and https://www.tastespotting.com are awesome for extra traffic. I get an extra 1,500-2,000 pageviews (spread over a few days) for every photo that's accepted, and most of the users of that site pin photos to Pinterest, so I continue to get residual traffic from those as well.

I work as a WordPress consultant and pinterest has been driving a lot of traffic for clients. Benefits mainly my travel blog clients but really anything photo intensive with original content works well.

There have been about 8 million posts about pinterest in the seo community lately but it basically boils down to make it easy for people to pin content and curate as many of your own boards as possible (within reason), making sure to embed links (link to content, don't link just to front page). If you're clever you can also do pinterest syndicates like you'd do a stumbleupon syndicate (collection of people who pin or stumble each other's content on a regular basis to seed numbers).

The other thing to be aware of is pinterest will stick it's own affiliate links into your links if you don't already have an affiliate tag of your own in a link. That's lost opportunity and is their "hidden" profit model.

Just thought I'd share this with everyone. How to secure your wordpress blog.

Has anyone successfully held a first position rank? (Or a really high rank)

I was ranked number three for a keyword with 10k+ searches per month and I was getting about 120 visitors a day just from Google alone. I checked earlier today and it was ranked on the 4th page. I just got home from work and now it is on the 3rd page. I'm gonna give it a day or so and see what it does. But how on earth do you successfully rank something in a noncompetitive niche? Jeeze it's not easy.

this sounds intriguing to me. I'm still on my first site and I'm trying to use it to learn more about WP and webhosting, etc in general. Also forcing myself to provide 5 or 6 updates per day is a hard thing to get used to.

I'm only getting like 50 uniques on a good day. But it is only maybe 2-3 weeks old. so I don't really know how to gauge my progress. any tips?

Keep updating and wait. The site that makes me the most money (only $20/month) gets only 100 visitors per day. The way I look at it is if I have 50 sites just like that, then we're getting somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestion. This may be a dumb question but what should I do so that the RSS feed will show only excerpts from my posts (e.g. first few lines) instead of the entire post? Thanks in advance.

What the heck? Go write a few articles and submit them to ezine, hub pages, and the like. Also do some link building or guest blogs! With minimal work, you could get 40 people a day. That takes almost no maintenance.

To be honest, I don't use the articles to drive much traffic, but more to boost my search engine rankings for my targeted keyword. What is your keyword, if you're comfortable posting it.

Now that you ask it, I guess that's the problem, I'm wishy-washy about my keyword, I think. I have a home brewing blog, but I guess I got caught up in making the site about my favorite hobby more than the strategy. There's a million blogs like this out there, but at least I figured out some of the mechanics and practicalities of putting together a site. It's been helpful since the last time I built a web site was in 1994 (with notepad!).

If you're going for "esports" as a keyword, you're not really using it very often. I only see it twice on the page, and one of those is in a tag cloud, and in the title tag.

Your site seems really light on content. Each post rarely has more than a few lines of text. You have a strong focus on video, which is fine, but it's not backed up with original content. The videos themselves won't rank particularly well on their own accord, since they aren't original.

Are you doing much linkbuilding around "esports"? I did some checking, and I don't see any links at all?
