I ended up going to Hung's on Wardour St, this tiny place with about 4 tables. Their wontons had actual prawns in, and were delicious!

I saw the BBQ meats hanging in the window and was very tempted... Next time! Their tea wasn't jasmine, though, which, while not unpleasant, wasn't what I expected.

Ooh, looks good. A quick squit at the menu rams home something that's starting to annoy me about gourmet burger places. If I'm paying £8 for the privilege of enjoying a single burger, you could throw in a few fries with it.

Paradise by way of Kensal Green accepts the TasteCard and is very good. Can be a little hipstery, but the food makes up for it. Good bar, too.

Although last time I went, I was waiting for my food and saw there's a pub next door that does all sorts of burgers and ribs and barbecue, so I'll have to give that a look soon.

It's a bit apples to oranges, but so much better than a recent Yautcha trip. Worst service I've ever recieved in a restaurant, this place used to be so great, so sad :smith:.

I went to Yauatcha with a couple of friends for dinner once, just a Tuesday evening about 6pm. It was the warm bit of summer last year, so we were just in t-shirts. The maitre'd woman gave us this disdainful once over look, and we asked for a table for 3. She turned to her companion, they exchanged a look, and then told us they had nothing till at least 10pm. The place was barely half full. We laughed and walked out. I have no desire to return.

After that, we finished off with the sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream! Doc, you missed out. As a Canadian, I had no idea what clotted cream was, but it sounded delicious. I would describe it as a mixture between heavy whipped cream and butter, at the perfect temperature to be spread. It's coolness was a perfect match for the warm richness of the toffee pudding. If you like rich dessert, you MUST order this!

It was a really great lunch.

Oh, you bastard. Yeah, clotted cream is one of our English secrets we don't tell you guys about. It is the best thing for desserts ever. I want to go back to Hawksmoor and try this legendary French dip everyone raves about. And then I might have pudding too...

1. Spending a day at the British Museum

One thing to bear in mind is, that while the British Museum is absolutely chock full of some of the most amazing and varied artifacts from all over the world, and is undoubtedly the finest collection of such on the planet, the museum itself does have a maximum stuff attention span of about 3-4 hours. After that you're pretty much gliding from case to case through some sort of politeness coma where you just feel compelled to do so, without really taking in what you're looking at.

I'd suggest a long morning at the British Museum, possibly 9am to noon/1pm, and then do something much more engaging in the afternoon (starting with lunch at one of our many fine eateries).

People should go and try Bodean's new tri-tip sandwich. It's surprisingly good.

Last time I was in, I was chatting to one of the servers, and asking why the barbecue (especially the pulled pork and brisket) often came up cold. He apologised and said it sat in the trays too long, rather than staying heated. He acknowledged that it was a problem, and didn't like it himself.

I wanted to book a table at Seven Dials, but there was nothing free till 830, so I booked at Air Street instead. It's so different from Seven Dials, and is completely lacking in any sort of character. There's this sort of 70s rarified atmosphere in the place that's hard to describe, but it lacks any of the warmth of Seven Dials, and I really wish I'd been able to change it. Food was still drat good, of course.
