I really don't think we want to start another tipping discussion on SA. Not even about UK-specific tipping. I went to 8 Hoxton Square this week and it was pretty excellent. Really simple meals, not much fuss, lovely service and great wine at reasonable prices. So yeah.

Go to Chick n' Sours. Just go, and eat all of it. Make sure you get the sticky wings. Also somehow just had free lunch at Dishoom after they messed up our order.

I've only been to the Old Street Lantana but had a really nice brunch there. Their avo on sourdough is excellent and the coffee is pretty good.

Go to Hoppers on Frith Street, which is the new place by the Ghymkana team. Deal with the fact that you'll have to wait for a table and can't reserve. Order one of everything of their amazing Sri Lankan menu and one of their Colombo gin and tonics. Thank me later.

The sharing cocktails say they serve 4-6 but we got 10 drinks out of each one we ordered which was really nice. Alright, thanks! Am really looking forward to it. What drinks did you have and what stood out for you?

Mmm, Oriole was alright but not great. They didn't have a sound engineer which didn't help the band, and the service just wasn't good, at all. They did eventually give us a free round in return for the fact that they had messed up three of our 9 drinks in total. I was surprised because when we talked to the waiter, she said she's been working at Nightjar for five years. Cocktails themselves were good. I forgot all the names but we had one spectacular sharing one with dry ice which was a lot of fun, and the whisky and tobacco liquor one I had really stood out as well. Just gonna say that I do prefer Merchant House if you're looking for that kind of atmosphere, where the staff really know their stuff.

Again POD and Itsu for that kind of stuff. Out of the salad places I quite like Tossed. I've tried 5 Guys' bunless option and thought it was pretty awful. Wrapping a burger in bland icecold lettuce leaves... ugh. GBK's bunless options are much better. Also Tortilla is better than Chipotle.

More and more places do mark their gluten free options. You should be absolutely fine when it comes to breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Just look at the kind of places you're interested in and look at whether their online menus indicate it. I've never cared for afternoon tea and wouldn't know about that, though.

Whilst I've barely eaten here so far, there are definitely a couple of nice little hipster coffee shops (St. Matthew's Yard is great, and does excellent brunch), and there's a huge Spanish tapas place that's very fun and friendly on the High Street - I ended up there last weekend. So eh, let me know if and when you do find something.

Fine dining + Chinese would be places like Hakkasan. Their tasting menu is fantastic. If you're actually looking for fine dining and money isn't an issue then it really is worth looking at the Michelin starred ones. I'd go for the Ledbury, personally.
