I did Ikki from DVD boxset #2 for /vrgccx/, but I only made a script watching my DVDs, I didn't touch the video files. And I never will, I have a pretty decent life over here, a 10 year prison sentence would sorta crimp that a bit.
It might sound strange, coming from someone who subs, but I'd like it if people bought the Japanese DVDs too. Most of the content on them has been subbed already, some of the extras are pretty cool. and it supports the show too.

(And as was pointed out, the yen is currently in the crapper, so it's a good chance to buy them...)

Thanks to how much I've loved the subbed episodes, I went out and bought the the english DVD for Christmas. It's a little bit harder to justify buying the japanese ones though, because all they would do is sit in my room and look pretty.

Where are you buying them from? They're quite cheap from Amazon.co.jp. Plus you get the neat extras, like variations of Arino`s business card.

It's not so much the price, as it's hard for me to justify buying a DVD that I can't use for its intended purpose (that is, one I can't watch because it doesn't have english audio or subtitles). I wasn't considering the extras though; memorabilia such as versions of Arino's business card makes it a little easier to justify a purchase (so it's more like I'm buying the memorabilia that comes with free dvds).

For anyone else who's curious, the DVDs from Amazon.co.jp around around $44 each, and global shipping to the US is about $9.50 (at least to Alaska). It's definitely worth considering if you're at all interested in purchasing the dvds.

What's a game you want Arino to play? I recently requested Wurm: Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Legendary Wings
Guardian Legend
Conquest of the Crystal Palace
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game
Flying Warriors (since it's a kinda-sorta sequel to Flying Dragon)

Also just realizing I want Arino to play a TMNT game. First NES game would probably be the obvious long and hard one the show would pick.

If they ever do this, I want him to wear a mask at some point.

The first one is stupidly hard, and I'm not sure it would be that fun to watch. It looks like even with the code you only get 4 continues, which is going to be rough.

The 2nd one is a beat 'em up, and we know how good Arino is at those (though as I recall it also has a stage select code to help).

This time Arino is playing the most expensive game they've ever used in an episode: Super Spy Hunter. The US version can be easily found for less than ten dollars, the Japanese version for several hundred. Will he be intimidated by this game?

This time out the episode was translated by zari-gani, timed by Gutcruncher, and really was checked by Hirayuki.

Shockingly, this is another episode translated by Zari-Gani and edited by Hirayuki.

Flying Dragon came out on the Wii U VC a couple weeks ago, completely out of nowhere. Culture Brain lives!

I can't speak to this specific game as I haven't played it, but I know it came from a series called Hiryu no Ken in Japan, and the international released tended to be mashups of two or more Hiryu no Ken games for whatever reason - they'd take the combat from one game and the exploration from another and combine them into some new thing. I have no idea why.

I'd have loved to see him take on Flying Warriors, but as you mentioned it's a weird mashup of two other games and was never released in Japan.

I just got around to watching that episode the other day. It made me wonder, how much of the show is Arino just being spontaneously witty and how much is Kibe's writing? I assume he writes in stuff like an AD turning up in a police uniform and stuff like that, but Arino's lines?

One of the things that's always bugged me about the Bikkuriman World episode is at the end when Arino sticks up all the valuable stickers. I really hope that was scripted, or that they at least replaced the poor writer's stickers after the show.

Battletoads
F-Zero

To piggy back on what others are saying, I would just watch them in order, even though some of the first few episodes can be rough to watch as the format was a bit different.

One I haven't mentioned so far is Super Mario Land. I find it really entertaining, but you probably need to watch a few other episodes first. Another personal favorite is Bikkuriman World, since it has some 'classic' Arino moments.

I think I've completely forgotten which games Arino even completes because I always miss the very end.
