I don't consider this a bad thing. The only measurement translation I've had an issue with was in the 52 Stations of the Tokaido episode, when the term li got translated as miles. A li is about half a kilometer, so calling it a mile is pretty significant difference. It was largely incidental in 52 Stations, so not a huge complaint. I consider it sillier in the Three Kingdoms subs I'm watching, where they discuss military camps spread over 700 li but just say 700 miles instead. It gets kind of ridiculous at that point.

Yeah, the Li -> Mile thing really had nothing to do with how far it actually was, but the fact that pretty much nobody has even heard of a Li or knows that its a unit of measurement.

Like Gutcruncher said, I only translated li to miles because a li is not commonly known and we like to avoid translator's notes as much as possible. Actually, 53 Stations was my very first translation job for SA GCCX, and I had translated half the episode already before I joined. In my original translation I used "Ten lis? Eight lis?" then put a note saying "one li = half a kilometer." That's because back when I used to translate GCCX by myself using Overstream.net, I didn't localize a lot of things. I kept in honorifics and didn't translate kachou, I think. Basically I was translating more for Japanese culture enthusiasts.

Gutcruncher timed and edited that one, and I can't remember if he changed li to miles or if that was my decision.

That first half you translated actually had a lot of translator notes, and even had two whole sets of lyrics for the song with a little *use whichever you want*. I ended up actually doing a combination of the two, since there were parts in one translation that I liked more than parts in the other.

I just remembered that the .txt file that website gave me for your subs was literally just ONE HUGE WALL OF TEXT. That was a lot of fun to figure out!

For countless hours, the staff watch in boredom as Arino runs through the same Pac-Man maze over and over. Morale is low and ratings are plummeting. Can the show survive Arino's challenge of Pac-Man?!
What? Not that Pac-man? Theres ANOTHER Pac-Man? WHAT?!

Apparently theres a Pac-Man 2 and its a new adventure or something.

Valis X

Valis X (Valis Cross) was a hentai attempt to resurrect the series. There are five Valis X titles that retell the stories of the first four games containing copious amounts of lesbian acts and tentacle sex. The game was developed by Eants but was published by Telenet Japan. This was also the last game published by Telenet Japan.

The game was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series however, the game was poorly received by critics and fans of the series.

So, yeah... (really liked Super Valis IV on SNES)

So wait, are they action sidescrollers that take sex breaks or are they visual novel porn games? Holy poo poo my world is crashing down around me

The best part is he STILL made a big profit off those. He got Steel Batallion for like 50 bucks (it still had the price tag right on it) and he was collecting Saturn games since the begining, managing to get all these currently crazy expensive games for cheap. He sold me his EXTRA Panzer Dragoon.

While I'm very happy for you guys and how all this is panning out, as a european (german, to be specific) this is kind of "bad news" for me.

This means the chances of getting the Kotaku episodes in any way that is not :filez: will be close to impossible unless I spend a whole bunch of money importing wrong-region DVDs from the US. And if it ends up beig successful (which it most likely will be.. how could it not?) that'll probably mean more episodes I'll never get to see subbed. I already couldn't watch the Kotaku episodes because they were US only and now I'll probably never get to see them.

Not to mention that with this kind of work, the subbing of new episodes will probably be slowed down too which in returns means even less new, subbed episodes for me :(

Edit: In any way, I didn't want to be a huge bummer about this and congratulations are definitely in order. At least the show is getting more exposure outside of Japan and that can only mean good things. Still, personally, I'm kinda bummed about this... no offense to anyone involved.

But what makes you think it wont also see release in Europe? If it proves to be a success in NA then there would be more reason to gamble on Europe.
