The Silmarillion I imagine "Music of the Ainur" being like a Fantasia-style audio-visual feast, before following with a series of no-expense-spared adaptations covering Quenta Silmarillion and everything that follows Edit: If not films, at least give me an epic mini-series! Is that too much to ask?!

They've been trying and trying to get an Artemis Fowl movie going over at Disney. I imagine Hobbit might re-ignite that fire. It's got dwarves and poo poo.

LOTR was the most psyched-up I ever let myself get ... for anything ... ever. And I was not disappointed. Watching that trailer again, brought me instantly back to how I felt a decade ago. I am trying to undersell The Hobbit to myself, in case it's a lame money-grab. I was burned pretty bad with Phantom Menace.... But secretly I will die a little inside if it sucks. Just like I did when TPM came out. Sigh.

Medical posted:So when these make a billion dollars, what fantasy properties will Hollywood greenlight to try and cash in? To be honest, thanks to LotR and Harry Potter, the fantasy cash-in factor reached saturation long ago. I'd be surprised if The Hobbit changes much. LotR also triggered a wave of "epic CGI armies" films like Troy and Kingdom of Heaven that also seems to have reached saturation. So many of the big properties have already been attempted and largely botched. The Wheel of Time series seems to be looming, but that's pretty B-grade and a bit dodgy when the first book is basically a plagiarised version of The Fellowship of the Ring. I can't imagine many big name directors would want to deal with that poo poo. VVV pretty much yeah Mr. Gibbycrumbles fucked around with this message at 00:29 on Dec 21, 2011 |

Wasn't the dual failures of the Golden Compass and Prince Caspian pretty much the saturation point?

So, the trailer is apparently going to be up on the Apple trailers site at 10pm Eastern time, or 3am GMT. I'm in the UK so will have to stay up 'til 3am Just 3 more hours. This had better be good.

Holy shitfuck. Way to hit every single nerve I have to make me insanely excited for this, PJ! Was that a piece of the actual Howard Shore score in the trailer? It sounded pretty awesome.

Trailer worked for me. Thorin definitely not as Gowronish as he looks in the photos. This next year is gonna be agonizing.

I love it. I don't like how they make it out to be Gandalf's story. There's more Gandalf in there than Bilbo. But aside from that it looks beautiful.

Probably a smart way to do the trailer. Most moviegoers are going to easily recognize Gandalf because we've seen him on the screen before. Provides a sense of familiarity.

Oh yes, that was glorious. It's quite rare that I've gotten chills down my spine from a trailer, and this is the 2nd time this week (the Prometheus teaser first). Next year should be a great one for film.

Fantastic. The Dwarves couldn't be more perfect. And Thorin. Not to mention Bilbo, who looks like he will do an excellent job. I'm overwhelmed with awesome.
