I work at a bike shop where we see a lot of Chinese motor scooters in for service, and the thought of cars made in that mold terrifies and despairs me. They are universally horrible and I pity their owners. Another guy at the shop spent some time in central/south america, and tells the story that he saw in action down there a segment of the Chinese motor industry. He would say that if you've got X number of dollars, something in the few tens of thousands, you can hook yourself up with an east Asian supplier and just tell them "I want a shipping container full of Harleys" and they'll just send you one. Who knows how they make it, but it'll be a copy of a Sportster or whatever. Right off the bat when you open up your shipping container of Harleys, 30% of them won't work, 30% of them will never work, and you can sell the rest locally and still make a profit.

I wish the California segment had been even longer. That thing has been burned into my brain as the most awesome car ever since I saw Ferris Bueller as a kid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S7AyiVfNdA gently caress yeah.

I think this was mentioned before, but I thought it deserved posting. James May beating Gordon Ramsay at being a chef and eating inedible food: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwPmLwW1-PA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xhfJRdwHnU

mod sassinator posted:Wow that last segment was fantastic. Even as a pure blooded American, I couldn't help but feel proud for the brits. Totally agree. And I raged again against the hegemony of NASCAR and stagnation of virtually every other motorsport in this country.

I'm willing to give the British a lot of leeway on their jingoism, because their country has some legit high class credentials in motorsports. In addition to the F1 teams and the Isle of Man, they're like the size of, what, New England, NY and PA right? And how many good race tracks do we have in that area? 4? Don't they have like 10-15?
