The youtube crashing thing is indeed super-annoying. A workaround for now is just to go to any other page (like google or about:blank) before closing the tab. It will successfully load the new page and then won't crash when you kill the tab.

I would assume it will apply to all chromium-based browsers unless the developer says differently.
