If you have a lot of extensions or plugins, that could cause the issue. Try starting an Incognito window and see if that helps. Yeah, that was one of the big selling point of chrome: every tab opens its own process, and so does every extension. That means if one goes bad and starts eating up your whole CPU or RAM, you can kill it without affecting any other tab or extension (99 times out of 100).
