http://www.npr.org/2012/02/26/147047574/first-listen-andrew-bird-break-it-yourself#playlist New Andrew Bird. The first time I listened to it I was kind of underwhelmed, but it's grown on me a lot. I think you'll enjoy it if you're already an Andrew Bird fan, but I don't think I'd recommend it as a starting point for anyone unfamiliar with his work. There's nothing to really "get" about him, but I think it's one of those things where you can understand that this would be his next record if you've been following him for years. Although, I'm pretty sure I read an interview with him where he said this would be a record that was heavier on the pop side. I'm not seeing that at all. And if you don't listen to Andrew Bird and happen to love this, congrats. You've just discovered one of the most fascinating musicians on the planet, and you will be better for it.

York_M_Chan posted:I had not heard of Bowerbirds until their new album The Clearing, but I love them now. Bowerbirds are from Raleigh, NC, which actually has a really kick rear end indie music scene along with Durham and Chapel Hill. I think if you like Bowerbirds you'd also probably like Megafaun a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrjdWfIZ4fc Justin Vernon from Bon Iver moved down to Raleigh from Wisconsin with the guys from Megafaun when they were all in a band called DeYarmond Edison. The band broke up, Justin's girlfriend dumped him, he got sick with mono, and then he moved back to Wisconsin and recorded his first album, much of which was written in North Carolina. The other three guys stayed behind and relocated to Durham and continued on as Megafaun. I think they're just as compelling as Bon Iver and in some ways are a little more interesting. And if you enjoy pop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CBBdOk4Qic The Love Language are also from Raleigh and make some ridiculously awesome, catchy music and are label mates on Merge Records with Arcade Fire/Superchunk/The Magnetic Fields/Wild Flag/M. Ward/Spoon/Wye Oak/too many other great bands to mention. I'll stop ranting about North Carolina bands now. Also came here to warn everyone about the new Beach House record. I've had the privilege of hearing it in advance. If you're into them, you will be very, very pleased.

Conduit for Sale! posted:How much of the new Spiritualized album is about how awesome heroin is or just about heroin in general? If I ever hear "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" (the album or just that line from the album) again I will probably buy all the opiates in the world and then take them and die, so I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. None really.

Today I finally got around to listening to last week's All Songs Considered podcast and heard a new Amanda Palmer track called "Smile (Pictures Or It Didn't Happen)." Holy. poo poo. I couldn't find this streaming anywhere else, so you'll have to scroll down the page a little. It sounds absolutely massive, and if this is the kind of quality we can expect from the rest of the album, it's going to be amazing http://www.npr.org/2012/08/14/158693834/this-weeks-essential-listening-jens-lekman-amanda-palmer-more

Toe Rag posted:I just listened to it. It's all right. Footy is pretty good. I thought Wide Eyes was one of the better songs from Centipede Hz, but I'm not really sure at this point how much of that he wrote. It's way better than alright. Footy is pretty outstanding. And Good House is just beautiful. This is the best thing I've heard so far in 2016 and would probably be a contender for AOTY for me if I didn't already know the new Swans will take those honors
