I've been listening to Lucius pretty obsessively ever since I saw their Tiny Desk Concert about nine months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pk_2dVPjms Two ladies with almost identical voices singing great songs with ridiculously good hooks. Their first album just came out yesterday, and it's fantastic. Far more dirty, distorted, and reverbed-out than their live performances, but that just makes me like it more. You can hear the whole thing on NPR's First Listen, and a video for the first single is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmck8zg4_OY Now if they'd only come to Australia. They released they're first full length "Today We're Believers" last year and they're going to be doing a North American tour with Bombay bicycle Club this spring. Hard to describe their sound but its a lot of fun. That is pretty loving great. Buying this album.

It's not as immediately catchy and memorable as the first one (I don't really care for danger mouse all that much to be honest, but I liked Broken Bells as a Shins fan). I'll listen to it a few more times and see how I feel but it's a bit more.. standard and low key I feel. Where is it out? Amazon shows it as being released on the 31st. e: Oh, it's streaming on their site.

I really like the first one a lot but this one's pretty good too Was just talking to a friend about this album. It's okay, but I like the sound of it more than the songs themselves, it you get what I mean. Like it's really well-produced and has a good vibe to it, but I don't know that you will ever catch me humming one of these songs. The first one took a bit to grow on me, though, so maybe I just haven't given it enough time.

Yep, I also really dig the new St. Vincent. I still kinda prefer her older style (like Marry Me and Actor), but this album is pretty great nonetheless.

Rageaholic Monkey posted:For any of y'all who are Wilco fans, I'd highly encourage you to check out Tweedy's album Sukierae. It's Jeff Tweedy on vocals/drums and his 18-year-old son Spencer (who you might remember from their documentary I Am Trying To Break Your Heart) on drums. There's 20 songs, so it's a lot of material to absorb. It's honestly better than anything Wilco has done for years, though, and it's really nice to see this father/son duo play together and compliment each other really well. This is the one with the ladies from Lucius on some of the tracks, right?

I was just going for Jenny but, while Tuneyards were about as strange as I was expecting they were actually really good in their own way. I wasn't familiar with Shakey Graves, apparently he's somewhat of a local favorite in Austin, plays southern rock influenced music, and is for the most part a one man band. Tuneyards is a bit divisive in some circles, but I think she's amazing. Her energy live is absolutely intense, and anyone who's ever tried to do live looping stuff will have to admit that her sense of timing is almost superhuman.

Right! I've been into samba for a long time, but had no idea until a couple of years ago that Angola had a very similar parallel musical movement called semba (e.g., Bonga up there). It was like discovering that one of my favorite genres had doubled in size and gained a new flavor overnight!

Want to know how excited I should be. I'm three tracks in and it sounds a lot more loose and less produced than most of Wilco's later catalogue - mostly just fuzzed out guitar, bass, and drums doing straight-ahead songs. Still pretty good though.
