Rageaholic posted:This is not how I've always felt about Wilco, mind you. I love albums like Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost Is Born and Sky Blue Sky. Sky Blue Sky was 15 years ago, though. I think the last new album of theirs I listened to was The Whole Love, and that came out 11 years ago. The only track from that album that I remember is Art of Almost, but I remember that track being excellent and energetic. For whatever reason, I don't think I listened to Star Wars, Schmilco or Ode to Joy. Did they lose a core member since I last listened to them or something? Because something's definitely missing on this album. It's fine, but it's not the older Wilco cranking out incredible single after incredible single that I remember. That run of albums is definitely them at their peak, and it's definitely been pretty sharply downhill from there in my opinion. Still, it's a drat good peak.

I like it all but I definitely think that the first two singles (Chaise Longue and Wet Dream) are the dumbest songs on the album. They're fun, but they really don't show off the songwriting skills that are on display on a lot of the other tracks.

Yeah if you have to go, that's the way to do it. Their newest album is one of my favorite albums by anybody in years, which is both great and sad. Great to go out on a creative high note, I guess, but sad because I was so looking forward to whatever they would do next. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9JyjipKBJk

I think I first heard Arthur Moon through this thread. They just put out a new album a day or two ago: https://arthurmoon.bandcamp.com/album/chaos-chaos-chaos-side-b Was listening in the car today and it is very good. The first song is my least favorite so far, but even it isn't bad at all. Trig Discipline fucked around with this message at 07:08 on Jun 5, 2023 |

Costco Meatballs posted:the other songs in the 'trilogy' are equally as impressive, and heart wrenching. but there is some catharis. They tell the story of a man who is afflicted by addition and ennui, who does not care for the cat that came into his life the way that he should - he loved him and took great comfort from him but because of the addiction could not give it all back. Yeah no that seem almost custom designed to gently caress me up in a way that I can't handle at the best of times, let alone right now.

Yeah no I get that, but I just took a job in Australia while my wife and cats are back in Japan. Including my best buddy George. I am his favorite person in the world and he is my favorite non-person in the world, and I haven't seen him in six weeks. For all he knows, I have abandoned him and am never coming back, and that fucks me up a lot. He and I have a dozen little rituals we usually do throughout the day, and I miss every single one of them every single day.

Yeah, it's weird but George doesn't seem to recognize people on screens. He'll recognize things that look like he should eat them, but I think whatever cues he uses to recognize me as a person just don't translate. Anyway, only four more weeks until I see him again!

New Vampire Weekend is out, and it's decent. Big improvement over the last one just by virtue of not having Koenig and Haim's mediocre attempt at country music scattered throughout.

I need to give the new one more listens before I could rank it with respect to the other ones, but I'm surprised to see people not liking Contra that much. I really enjoyed that album. Father of the Bride has about a half dozen excellent tracks and the rest of it can gently caress off into the sun. At some point I need to just remove the offending tracks from my library and then pretend like it was always just a great EP.
