Phantogram owns bones. They're indie pop/electronic (Disclaimer: I usually hate electronic music). Here's them playing live on Jimmy Fallon with ?estlove on drums. This band is fantastic. http://vimeo.com/19632737

Davincie posted:Oh man the FORTRESS album by Miniature Tigers has this terribly photoshoped bra on it on last.fm and its hilarious. For me, Miniature Tigers are the epitome of bands that had fantastic first albums and then just put out poo poo afterwards. I hate their newer stuff for some reason.

BonoMan posted:This is probably the best place to ask this, but I'm looking for recommendations on more atmospheric indie (vocals or no vocals).. basically something that straddles the line between movie score and soundtrack. Something that feels cinematic but has more body than a traditional score. Have you listened to any synthwave stuff? It can be extremely cinematic. Polo-Rican posted:This album has been getting really good reviews, and it's not bad, but I dunno... I really don't think any of their recent albums hold a candle to Teen Dream or Bloom. This is the first I've liked as much as Bloom. Probably not as good as Teen Dream though.

I was pretty pumped for the album because I liked the eps and their "Zeppelin clone" schtick was ok with me. That being said: the album is really really bad. Think the filler tracks from In Through the Out Door compiled as a longer album and that's what GvF made.

El Gallinero Gros posted:I was horrified to find out DFA were pals with Gavin Macinnes (same for Buzz Osborne, although that was less surprising) Re: DFA white supremacist poo poo: [Keeler] said he’d become acquainted with McInes around 2003, as DFA released early records on Vice’s label, and maintained a casual friendship up until last year. “Soon after the election, I began noticing that Gavin was promoting violence and a form of radical politics that I absolutely do not agree with. I have always been anti-war and anti-violence.” Keeler then talked about his mixed race heritage, and said he was raised by “my immigrant Indian family who struggled to make it in a new country.” “The reality is that I am not ‘Alt-Right,’ nor a White Supremacist. The facts are I am a mixed race father of two and a musician. I am so sorry for putting my family, friends and fans in this position. I never wanted to talk about politics, I just wanted to make music and leave that stuff alone. Unfortunately, my actions have brought me here, and I am deeply heartbroken about it. To a fault it seems that I give people the benefit of the doubt, and I hope that you will give me the same in return.” The author of the original article even said: “It’s an earnest and humble statement and I believe him. Kudos on responding in a timely manner. When the leader of The Proud Boys claim you as one of their own, you probably should denounce that poo poo. I, as the author of this piece, do not think Jesse Keeler is a Proud Boy or alt-right. He just seems like a giant dummy and hung out with some sketchy people.” Source: https://www.spin.com/2017/10/death-from-above-jesse-keeler-alt-right/ This isn't like when The Orwells destructed because the dude was a rapist (gently caress that guy). They were acquainted with this nazi poo poo stain before he was obviously a nazi poo poo stain and renounced him when someone called attention to their association.

Pardon me for thinking a couple of musicians might just write surface deep lyrics sometimes and not be trying to subvert progress in the name of white supremacy. They’re a couple of immature sex-obsessed contrarians. It goes along with their love for whiny punk music. I feel safe in my “I really like their music” stance and feel like the other poo poo has been cleared up (white supremacy ties) or wasn’t that important in the first place (problematic lyrical content).
