If someone hasn't heard of them yet, then give Slow Club a listen. They are a Sheffield, UK based indie pop/rock act that have some really fantastic lyrics and some great catchy songs.

They released a couple of upbeat EPs before their first album, Yeah So, which are worth a listen but I really think that they came into their own with Yeah So, every single track is great. The tone is a bit more depressing I guess, since every song seems to be about breakup in someway, but a lot of them are very childishly optimistic and wistful about the whole situation. 3 tracks that I think are particularly fun are It Doesn't have to be beautiful which has some great lyrics especially in the opening verse, Our Most Brilliant Friends which at first i didn't like but not can't help but shout along too, and Giving up on Love which is maybe the most famous song from the album but inexplicably got sped up in the official video which makes it sound stupid, but is a fun catchy track.

Their second album, Paradise, I haven't enjoyed as much so far but there are still some great tracks. The band have stopped their joint vocals mostly and have focused on the, admittedly technically better, vocals of the female lead. This gives the songs a bit more of a crisp, clean feel but I feel they are a bit too perfect, whereas the clash of the less controlled male vocals and perfectly controlled female vocals in the first album created a really honest and interesting sound in my opinion. The lyrics of their songs are also a lot more abstract in this album and less obviously focused on a specific issue, as in the first album. This makes them a bit more accessible maybe but again I sort of preferred the focus of the first album. Nevertheless, Two Cousins is exceptionally catchy and I could listen to on repeat for hours on end, and If We're Still Alive which returns to the joint vocals of the first album is also a great track and has some really fun lyrics.

What I'm trying to get across is, give them a listen, because I really like them and I want them to get more recognition so I can say I knew about them before they were famous :getin:

The Paper Kites, I found them while farting around on youtube, here are a couple of really good songs. I'd say they're fairly similar to Fleet Foxes.

Bloom My favorite song by them so far:

Featherstone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0IDiVQxZYg&feature=relmfu

I found them the other day as well, absolutely amazing band. Working on their album at the moment judging by their facebook page.

Monument Valley is another great solo folksie artist that my friend introduced me to the other day, he only has an EP out at the moment but every song on it is amazing.
Dear John Letters

Valentines Park pt 2

are probably my two favourite on the EP at the moment, but I can never bear to skip any song on it.

Dancing Years AKA Joseph and David are a pair of folky Musicians from Cardiff and Leeds who released a really good EP called Rise Up The Sun in december 2011, while the EP is great as a whole the single from it is absolutely fantastic:

I've been listening to Tall Ships a lot recently because they released their first album Everything Touching in early October. I fell in love with them when I first listened to their two EPs last year.

If you like rad guitars and layered music then these are the guys for you:

Also listen to Vessels, Books and Murmurations.

Vessels and Chemistry are my favourites so far, but I've been terrible at giving their new album a try because I stumbled across the EPs just before it came out and started obsessively listening to them. Its a bit different and odd but I really do love their music.

The slow club christmas EP from a few years back is great, particularly the songs Christmas TV and It's Christmas and you're boring me. Not the happiest christmas songs granted but they are great music.

Anyone else excited about the new GBV album dropping very soon? I thought about making a megathread/introduction to GBV but I'm not sure how many people actually enjoy them here

It can also be pretty hard to get into a band when it makes Prince in the 80s seem lazy and procrastinating in terms of releases.

Well, take this one way or another but... Who are GBV?

Slow Clubs christmas ep is pretty fun, even though one or two of the songs are a bit meh. Christmas tv is still bar none my favourite christmas song and possibly my favourite song ever so I basically listen to it just for that one song.

I've always been a big fan of them since their first album and I can't stop listening to this one. Their style has definitely changed and matured over the years and I think it's somewhere pretty awesome right now.

It owns. I really wasn't a fan of their second album, but this one has returned enough to the style of the first album whilst also introducing some new stuff to tickle me in all the right places.
