Saw Viet Cong and Savages yesterday at two separate shows. Both were awesome as hell. I was surprised and glad the audience was dancing hard to Savages, given they were playing at 1am. As usual when I see bands I like, I did end up sad that Savages didn't play one of my favorite songs (Fuckers), but it was made up for in how awesome the new songs they were trying out were. Man, post-punk revival is really my favorite thing to happen to music ever

It also basically just sounds like a more boring version of We Were Dead - same ingredients, but with all the spices removed.

No idea where to post this (I guess it would also be in a world music thread?) but Yonatan Gat opened the Of Montreal show I saw tonight, and totally blew me away. His new album's streaming on Bandcamp; this track in particular is kickass: http://yonatangat.bandcamp.com/track/north-to-south He and his band (a bassist and a drummer) were set up in a little circle in the middle of the general audience floor, which is a pretty cool way to do a concert! Smart move for an opener that is so different musically from the main act, definitely makes it look more like a spectacle. Was fun to watch people slowly figure out how the heck to groove to it

Here are some cool songs: I saw Mourn on Monday and they rule. They're a bunch of kids from Barcelona who play really cool poppy punk stuff. Their album's really good, if short, but they already had 3 or 4 new tracks when I saw them, so I'm pretty optimistic they'll get a second one out soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jgohc-pUtGM Then I saw Lower Dens on Tuesday, and was totally blown away. They sounded way better than I expected live, though they had a few false starts as they tried to get their various instruments in order for their newer stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n78GkK7LC9Y Also the first FFS song is out and it's pretty much what I expected, I'm looking forward to this album and hope they announce some American tour dates soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3V4KfeJBCQ jiffypop45 posted:SiriusXMU gave the relatively new PC Music label a pretty high talking up during their SXSW coverage. Anyone checked out their stuff? It's mostly poppy/electronic music with samples you'd expect from a Venetian Snares album. I love PC Music. I feel like what they're doing is going to be pretty shortlived (see: vaporwave), but it's really fun right now. SOPHIE's stuff seems the strongest (mainly because it's the most club-friendly, BIPP is a goddamn banger), but it's all good across the board. I actually went through the trouble of downloading all of their releases and throwing them together in a playlist, and it's funny how it all feels like it could be by one or two people. It seems like a pretty cohesive sound. I really like Pretty Green by Spinee, which sounds like a song composed of only the build-ups from big EDM hits

I'm seeing them Tuesday in Central Park. I don't really feel like I'm missing out by not seeing them in a smaller venue; they kinda seem like outdoor festival-ish music. This is a cool day for new releases. The new Disclosure album is so good! None of the songs stand out to the degree that the singles on Settle did, mainly because this album is generally slower and lower-key, but there's still some gems in here. The Miguel track in particular is fantastic. I'm actually kind of glad I was underwhelmed by the singles on this record and didn't get my hopes up too much, ended up pleasantly surprised by it. I hope their next record is a bit more uptempo, but this is gonna be some nice Fall/Winter chill music. Also, the new New Order record is shockingly good. It's a bit too long (every track could shave a minute or two and nothing would be lost; these aren't exactly the 12" singles they used to make), but worth a few listens.

Like a mini-music-festival without all of the awful parts, and actually a lot smaller than most outdoor theaters (around ~5000 capacity?). Plus because it's in Central Park all the shows end at like 10 which is way more reasonable than most. Glad to hear CHVRCHES' new stuff sounds good live; I reckon I should listen to their album sometime this weekend. Was a bit turned off hearing that it was more of the same, but I do like their first singles well enough that I figured I'd give them a shot live. * btw that Disclosure show is in the top 5 concerts I've ever seen, and had the RIDICULOUS lineup of Julio Bashmore and TNGHT opening, plus Sam Smith and Jessie Ware aahhh

They did a fantastic set, playing a solid 2/3 of the album, plus Take Me Out/Do You Want To/Michael (YESSSSS) and Number One Song In Heaven/This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us/When Do I Get to Sing "My Way"?, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the crowd was as happy as I was to hear the Sparks tracks. Disclosure's still open too, so I suspect either they've got a really big block of tickets for that or people are waiting until after a Thursday/Friday show to pick up an RSVP for it, since you can only hold one spot at a time.
